I wonder how this will affect anime onlies who have held out from looking into how the manga ended? Will this be the definitive ending for them or knowing that there are differences will they feel compelled after all this time to seek out the manga to decide which had the better ending?

Hope it's not too different. He should stick to his original vision and not please those "fans" that thinks they know better about the story & characters more than the author. People that hated the ending will find ways to complain about the episode or the series regardless.

The manga ending was great. But I do think the epilogue and some of the other characters could use a little extra send off...

I will not spoil it for anime on lies but i think everyone who has a read the manga know exactly which part they will cut.
spoiler[the part of how it was all for nothing and they still ended up destroying the eldians and the island after so it proved eren was right all along, but can't show it cause they can't condone genocide regardless ] |

That wasn't even the point.
The world is always changing, after a period of peace, humanity tends to repeats its old mistakes, and a cyclical warring period eventually comes by regardless of the efforts of the people that came before to stop the previous one. That happens in our real world all the time, it doesn't mean at all people's efforts in trying to stop the most losses they could was for naught. In heavily disputed territories in the past, entire empires were razed down, and new people eventually reconstructed those same razed lands and had their own story to tell, until the inevitability of the next cycle kicked in. That was what the finale was all about, it's incredible to me how people keep missing such an obvious point. |

My husband thinks spoiler[Mikasa beheading Eren then kissing his decapitated head] will be what's changed/toned down. I don't remember the part you mentioned spoiler[actually happening, as opposed to just being discussed], but that is a decent theory as well. Regardless, I will have my popcorn ready to see the anime fans' reaction. For the record, I hated the manga's ending. |

I'm pretty sure they are not going to animate that "additional" ending expansion that was exclusive to the final volume. That additional ending managed to make the ending worst.
They should just animate it the way the final chapter was, divisive as it is, at least it's a decent conclusion. In terms of redraws, spoiler[I'm pretty sure they are just changing the Mikasa kissing the decapitated head thing.] |

Spoilers: No it´s not. Death Note´s ending is 'a Little' different, actually more than that, outside of lacking the original final chapter. Changing a skyscraper during the credits is the equivalent of the Titanic hitting the iceberg an hour later. Only people who make listicles will care. One of the endings of all time/10.

Could always be worse. I originally wrote this post with several examples, but decided to reign it in.
A changed ending from the manga gives a reason for manga only fans to watch it. It also gives manga purists a reason to complain that it is not canon or correct. Do the fans want novelty/originality or loyalty to the source material? |
