Wasn't this on Hidive before? Is this just an announcement it is coming back?

Yup it was and the dub was exclusive to them since they made it and they licensed out the sub version to CR until last year when they pulled most of there licensed out anime from CR in March 2022.
They removed the show sometime last year from HIDIVE without a word. One of the 100+ titles they have just dropped from there service without notice, so far only a small handful have been added back.
Honestly the title of the ann news article should be 'NEWS: HIDIVE RE-Streams WATAMOTE...'
But hey at least they gave notice its returning lol, typical HIDIVE news.

Thanks, thought I was going crazy. Wouldn't be surprised if there is an influx of titles returning and they act like they are brand new to the service for the first time ever.

Yeah that's pretty typical of HIDIVE wouldnt be surprised myself, they will make a HIDIVE news post for any tiny thing and word it in order to seem like they have new news to share.

This is likely because they renewed the license and recently reissued the Blu-ray release as well. It's definitely one of Monica Rial's funniest roles. Now if HiDive could just get Clannad After Story again, lol

They’re recently bringing back some of the missing titles to albeit very slowly. They recently added back S1 of the demon girl next girl.

I don't think they even have the licence for that one. At this point Abenobashi is more likely to be license rescued by Discotek.

Fingers have been crossed that might resume adapting the rest of the manga someday. I mean, how long did it take to finally finish off that RomCom Snafu series?
Also, is Another on HiDive as well? I know Crunchyroll has the Japanese audio version, but the distribution rights were owned by Sentai. Missed out on getting the disc's back then, and now they're over a hundred bucks (so much for waiting for a sale). Not a big loss frankly, I heard the English translation was a little rough.

Considering they picked up Cromartie, which was an ex-ADV license, Abenobashi is a no-brainer. (That, and both shows did air on TechTV's Anime Unleashed block long ago.)

Sadly no (it used to be on The Anime Network at one point, unsure about HiDive), all it got was one print run when it came out on home video back a decade ago (as of post) and assuming its license more than likely expired. As its also no longer listed on Sentai's site in general (as a catalog title) and that its going for slightly higher over MSRP in the secondhand market.
Another (pun intended) example is also Monster Musume, also gone from Sentai and HiDive. Seems like some titles previously licensed from Sentai from around 5-10 years ago just came out and eventually went.

Hoping they put back up Mysterious Girlfriend X at some point. I have the Blu-ray but streaming it's more convenient.

That's nice as far as it being back in print, but I hope they also put it up somewhere for streaming. Sadly where I live Discotek titles rarely get a release.
