This is one of my favorite anime ever, and I've always been sad that there wasn't any more... (OK, there's the books and the game, but I've never been able to find the books, and I don't really do games, so.) It's so quintessentially... well, what it is, kind of a perfect time capsule for a particular time, subculture and aesthetics.

I'm a big fan of Kawajiri's works, having come into anime in the early to mid 90's when we were getting a lot of those bubble-era OVA's and Movies. (Anybody remember those commercials on MTV from Streamline advertising their video subscription service?)

I recently picked up the steelbook of Cyber City from DiscoTek and loved not just the beautiful remastering job on the video, but also how well the series holds up.

There's also an American comic book adaption that CPM put out in 1995 to tie-in with the original VHS release. Six issues, with two issues each devoted to adapting the episodes. It's been years since I pulled them out and read them but I remember them being pretty decent.

I used to own this one on DVD. The fluidity of the animation was always one of its strongest points to me. And it was just damn cool. It's really pleasing to see it get some well-deserved attention.

Yeah, this is one I'm definitely tempted to doubledip on for the gorgeous visuals. I have CPM's old set, but I have a tremendous love for Blade Runner-type cyberpunk and vintage OVAs. Such a perfect storm of delight.
