Not suprise. The ranking and the sale have been abysmal. The art is nice but the series never do anything well enough to stand out. The mystery is weak and the characters just aren't engaging enough to draw the readers in.

Sales were so bad that it was being outperformed by Doron Dororon and Earthchild. Two recently axed series. Ouch.

I think Aliens Area is next. It, like SS, was also being outperformed by the aforementioned axed series.

Sometimes I am baffled at what Shonen series get the greenlight. This series was just really bad and I'm not remotely surprised it's getting the Axe

This series always felt out of place in Shonen Jump. The art style and premise feel like they belong more in the light novel sphere than in a shonen magazine (on the other hand, maybe it would have done better in Shonen Sunday, which has more of a history with mystery manga.)

Either way, the story just didn't seem to quite come together. It always felt like its cancellation was just a matter of time.

I remember seeing somebody say that this manga felt like a fake manga from Bakuman and I kinda see that. Mystery manga in jump just seem kinda tragic because they set up a larger mystery but never get a chance to tell the story (I'm still mourning i tell c).

It only felt like this was a matter of time. I can't really say I loved this manga but it was ok reading it.

I enjoyed this one, I thought it had alot of potential. Shame new series have to basically gain a big following early on in order to survive Jump. Maybe if it was serialized somewhere else it would have a better shot at sticking around.

Worst part was that it didn't even get a proper conclusion and I have no clue what difference an epilogue chapter will make.

This was one I was interested in reading as it seemed like a title with a lot of potential and an interesting premise. It's too bad it's already canceled.

This series actually had an interesting concept. But I think some of its story decisions could have been more thought out.

I understand that making this kind of story is pretty hard to do on a weekly basis.

Not really a surprise: the sales were abyssal, and, even if they tried to make it a not-battle-battle manga, there was too much explanation about the smartphones, that, in the end, not really matter.
They even introduced two new strange new characters in the last episodes who didn't really do anything.
Until the latest batch of releases, the latest ones have been pretty disappointing: Earthchild, Supersmartphone… Aliens Area seems to be ending soon. Just Akane Banashi has enjoyed success.

Let's see how the newest series (Ginka & Glüna and Tokyo Demon Bride) pass the fall & winter season.

Well... ****

Weekly Shonen Jump has claimed another soul.

I didn't really dislike/hate this series as much as I have other ones which i just stopped reading but it was cool to have a title that tried to do battle with 'wits' instead of one of force, and while smartphone was never quite as smart as it wanted it's readers to believe I was more than willing to keep reading for a bit longer.

Man I hate getting attached to something just for WSJ business model to gut it. Well hopefully the author can learn from this experience and write a more captivating story(or a better story somewhere else).

I enjoyed it and thought it was a rare series that was very confident in its premise (Akane-banashi is similarly confident, but people like that one).

That was until it was clear that the readership at large did not care for the premise. Then it went into panic mode, and could never recover. If indeed recovery is ever possible for such stories.

There were also a few pages that felt like they had been redrawn very close to deadline - line work was sloppier than normal and lacking dialogue. Once that happened the writing was on the wall.

Aliens Area introducing 8 new characters in one chapter is the sign of imminent doom for that title.
