26 chapters, accounting for holidays it lasted about 5 1/2 months, which is honestly longer than other cancelled Jump series. Compare to some other series from 2021 like i tell c or Nine Dragons Ball Parade which only got 21 and 10 respectively. Shugomaru probably benefitted from more established series ending or moving out of the main magazine, if anything.

I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, it was constantly at the bottom of the ToC and sales were abysmal. I agree that it was probably just kept around as filler. Ayakashi leaving and Black Clover going on extended hiatus around the same time meant that Jump couldn't afford to lose any more series.
Luckily the author put his previous series (One Piece in Love) on hiatus rather than ending it so he can go back to that. |

I saw comments on the article and figured it would be other jaded Jump-ers noting the break from the usual pattern. To me it was always a question of "How is Shugomaru still running when they canceled Candy Flurry?" I guess it makes sense in terms of the Black Clover hiatus. |

Because Candy Flurry fought in the same league as other battle mangas and Shugomaru's rivals were Roboco and High School Family. If any series has benefitted from Black Cover hiatus, that's DoronDororon because it's a battle/action manga whith a target audience younger than Ayashimon's and it has a marketable mascot/character.
As for Shugomaru, it was a full blast comedy with a wholesome last "arc" and Ihara managed to wrap the story from chapter #1, which is quite a feat, even for a comedy series. I don't understand the hate against it. |

Man Super Eyepatch Wolf was right about this manga's days being numbered. WSJ is getting worse with the axings, it doesn't help that so many of the best sellers are franchise zombies.

People say this every time new series get cancelled, but honestly Jump has been a lot more forgiving with the ax the past few years compared to before. A number of series that would have gotten cut down by chapter 13 or 14 in years past managed to at least get a 3rd volume, and some like Magu-chan even stayed around long enough to get a decent run and satisfying conclusion. Like many have mentioned here, As for "Franchise zombies" I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean considering there's only 3 series in the magazine right now that are older than 5 years. |

WSJ has always been cancelling series quickly if you look at past series. The difference is now that Viz simulpubs them all, we see a lot more of the failures in real time.
