The Gévaudan arc is where Vanitas went from good to great in my eyes when I read the manga. And while the anime did cut a fair bit of extra detail so as to make room to adapt everything up to the current point in the manga, Bones still did a great job in pulling off and selling the emotional highs and beautiful, moving climax and resolution.

And yeah, this series deserves far greater popularity than it currently has and also maybe bring about a revival of interest in its predecessor, Pandora Hearts.

From what I get Vanitas is not such a popular series based on some comments I found in a site about sales. Still, it already got a stage adaptation of the first cour so I don't know how things work. In regards to the anime's future, I have no idea what does Bones plan to do since its most recent arc barely end since the author took a break during the social distancing and a monthly manga tends to take a long time to be adapted.

This has been on my "watch list" for a bit. I should probably get around to it.

Fun fact about Astolfo's backstory - that entire sequence was storyboarded directly by the mangaka.

I do have my qualms about some of the adaptive decisions of the anime. Not all of these cuts particularly matter within the context of what's currently being adapted, but it does genuinely feel that quite a bit has been lost. Certain relationships aren't as well-defined, specific supporting characters have their roles reduced, and a fair bit of worldbuilding has also been lost (which normally I don't see as a huge deal but i know some people were really confused by a lot of the terminology brought up that hadn't been mentioned by the anime in months). And I am growing increasingly worried about the next arc with only 5 episodes left.

That said, it's still Vanitas, and I'm still having a blast. The most important aspects of the story and all the messy, ugly, and deeply compelling emotions that come with it were conveyed splendidly for the most part.

What site is this? I'm very curious to know as my experience (limited though it is) is the total opposite. Before the anime even aired there were a limited number of merch like keychains and standees, all of which sold out immediately from the Japanese online retailers I frequent, and since the show started there's been an explosion of merch of all kinds, nearly all of which are also now sold out and unavailable. (My bank account thanks me, but not my sighing collectable-loving heart.)

I'm a bookseller and the manga is now constantly selling out, I can't keep the first volume in stock because no matter how many I order it's always gone immediately, and all the other volumes are fast sellers as well. Most volumes are also going out of print from the publisher, as they can't keep up with the demand with the ongoing supply chain issues every manga publisher is facing. I realise this is only English-based sales, but it's still a decent sign that Vanitas is, in fact, popular.

That was great column, showing well why Vanitas is such a great gothic vampire horny mess. If anyone's reading that and haven't watched Vanitas yet, I fully agree with the TWIA folks it's wonderful watch if you are even remotely into that stuff they described in this column.

This has been one of my favorite recent shows. I love the characters, the world building, and the animation which I feel like though the show seems popular with US fandom at least, it seems like the animation doesn't get enough credit from the sakuga community for whatever reason. Like everyone is going ga-ga over My Dress Up Darling which I like but it just disappoints me I don't see much appreciation for Vanitas' animation. I hope Bones will continue with another season and I wonder if this will end up being a 50 episode show.
