As someone who's lived in Sweden and Finland, I'm amazed of the long list of crowdfunding campaigns I've seen, for, things, that often are even pretty basic medical care. US is a first world country? Confused

Best of luck to Frazier.

The US isn't perfect, but the few reasons I know someone would be removed from a organ donor list is if they're a drug abuser or more recently they're anti-vaxx.

There are several other reasons someone can be removed as well. Weight related issues if surgery would be unsafe. Hell, any reason that would make surgery unsafe. Insurance issues. There are others as well.

No one should have to resort to crowdfunding to afford the medications, procedures, or equipment they need to simply live. It's just sad.

while the obvious I am not going to take care of my body, but give me another are reasons for one to be taken off the list.
There are a long list of reasons why someone would be removed for VERY VALID MEDICAL REASONS. Most of them dealing with health risks of procedure to the patient or patient quality of life post surgery questions. there are so few donated organs in the USA system that it is literally impossible for everyone to get what they need.

As someone who is constantly next to the US human medical system....it is well and truly fucked and its only going to keep getting way worst.

We really aren't, unless you're rich. Otherwise we quickly border on third-world.

They hit the goal, which is awesome.

Third-world is pretty melodramatic, but yeah, our income and -- especially -- wealth distributions are so uneven, and support for key medical/logistical infrastructure so poor, that US GDP-per-capita's a lot less useful for understanding a typical American's quality of life than in wealthy nations with strong safety nets.

Glad they hit their goal, anyway. I don't know enough about organ donation in the US to guess as to why she was most likely to have been removed from the don-ee list, but without knowing the reason, I'm certainly not going to celebrate her suffering. Hopefully her standard of living can stabilize a bit; sounds like it's pretty precarious..

Jan was taken off the transplant list because the rest of her body is not healthy enough to survive a transplant right now. She did nothing wrong, and those of you that imply she did can go dine on a massive bag of d*cks. You are small, horrible, petty people who don't know what you're talking about.

I'm sorry you had to see these repugnant comments. I don't know how these people sleep at night. Please give her the fans' love.

I apologize if my comment contributed to that, Amanda. I worded it poorly, and didn't mean to contribute to the insinuations earlier in the thread. Glad you all reached the target amount.

Thank you for setting the record straight, Mrs. Lee.

I remember, when I was just getting into manga and anime at the end of the previous millennium (it's been a while...) the fascinating experience of discovering Frazier's website. I remember going many times through the FAQ pages she put up for those who dream of working in the anime industry (pretty much crushing their hopes - but it was still a great read. Things have, of course, drastically changed since then) and through the pages describing her life story, which she constantly updated - there were many victories there, but many heartbreaks and tragedies as well. There was a time when she was working on a book about her experiences, but it appears that nothing came out of it. It's a shame her website is no longer online. Here's hoping she'll get better.

I can only imagine what people actually living in third world countries think of Americans who say things like this.
