I knew the GANTZ live action movie news update would happen after the success of Squid Game.

Honestly I didn't think about it in that respect, although I'd argue the success of Squid Game was set upon the release of Alice in Borderland to allow Netflix to grab another in the same genre.

I'm both mad and Happy this could possibly and I mean possibly get a Hollywood adaption, there have been plenty of anime's that Hollywood grabs the rights to and never works out. This is perfect for western audiences, Guns, Combat, Sex, Nudity, Aliens, Robots, Mysterious Beings. As long as they stay away from the latter half of the manga I'd bet this would be a successful movie.

While Hollywood's track record hasn't been that great I'd also argue its getting better. i doubt we'll see anymore about this for another 4 years, if it gets adapted.

Kei Kurono will be voiced by Chris Pra-----Okay, okay. Maybe not. I wonder if they'll tone down the puberty content. I didn't even watch the Eastern liveaction though.

Huh. Point taken. And like the other poster said, Alice in Borderland was successful enough to begat that hit as well. It’s circular.

I don't think Gantz should be hard for Hollywood to adapt, but Marc Guggenheim is concerning.

Was betting on Battle Royal myself, or maybe even something like Danganronpa or Zero Escape. I got a bad feeling we'll see a bunch of bad 'death game' movies and shows popping up out of Hollywood over the next few years.

A post has been removed!

It is due to its nature of being disrespectful towards the producer and scriptwriter of the upcoming live action of Gantz.

A manga/anime + a journeyman director + Sony Pictures. What a formula. The better question is how far this one will get. Such adaptations will one day get better and start to actually happen instead of just being announced but is this day now? Who knows.

Gantz now also feels like a relic from ages ago. A direct adaptation won´t stand a chance even if this unlikely scenario comes about. See you all next year or so when it is Berserk´s turn on the chopping block.

If they were smart they would go to Funimation/Crunchyroll/Aniplex and look for advise from people actually involved in the anime business. They might not be perfect but between all of them they should be able to tell Sony Pictures what will and won’t work for this and future anime movies. What’s the point of having all that experience if they don’t use it. Of course Hollywood executives wouldn’t even think of doing this.

In some ways,I can see Hollywood wanting to do things based on stuff like "Sailor Moon,""One Piece,"and to a certain extant,"EVA,"if only they'd give it a more hopeful, optimistic tone. But,here's the thing. Why "Gantz?" I don't get that. From what I've heard of it,it's cruel to the point of being nihilistic. Why would anyone want to do that? Yeah,I know. "Squid Game" is popular right now.
I think that we should be doing something a little more upbeat and uplifting. Something that could raise people's spirits in times such as these. "Gantz" is so dark, depressing, and bloody. There's too much of that already. What's wrong with something fun and comedic. That's what's needed. Not something like this.

Well, tragedy sells. Urobuchi, Tomino, Clamp. Think of famous movies in general such as Titanic, Reservoir Dogs, Godfather, etc. There is nothing wrong with fun and comedic but I guess sometimes people like dark stories especially for Halloween.

The Hollywood rights are holding back any possible anime as Sony got the adaptation rights to Gantz in all forms but manga. Marc Guggenheim might also be attached to the script. This Deal's Getting Worse All The Time.

I'm sure Sony Pictures will give it the same respect they gave to Uncharted.

A TV show would've been ideal. Actually I wouldn't mind original content using an American Gantz team set in the same universe, and maybe even an episode with the Japanese team.

But I guess the budget for FX and opportunity for body horror prosthetics wasn't thrre and needed a movie? Which also means PG-13 to maximize revenue?

The CG Gantz 0 movie was the best adaptation I've seen outside of the original anime.
