Isn't that a lot for a title that's basically fujoshi powered?

Its a lot for almost any anime franchise. (Significantly more than the LL movie that released this year, more than any fate movie and more than Promare) Guydols have been really hot recently though, the the top two best selling idol units in terms of music are I7 and Hypmic (hypmic crushing everything else by a lot, I7 barely outpacing BanG Dream) so maybe that part (being aimed at women- which isn't what fujo means but I assume thats how you're using it) isn't so unusual.

Yeah, I kinda meant to say "female otaku" in general. And that's pretty amazing for them, then.

But yeah, it does start to feel like male otaku has no place in the industry, I guess they are kinda stuck with playing gacha nowadays, as anime industry won't pander to them anymore, so they won't get into anything related either, and stick with what they know will pander to them.

Yeah, I kinda wish I could become a woman (or a teen boy) by thinking hard enough, since that's the two audiences the industry is for.

I get how you feel, but you should probably be aware that you aren't being rational at all. The vast majority of manga, LNs and anime are for men. For a long time, women got hardly anything, and now they get a few dedicated series a year. Look at next seasons anime chart and you'll see that most anime aren't for women, not even 50% of anime are for women which would be if it was proportional. I get wanting everyone to have the same taste that you do, but variety is the spice of life and its okay for things to exist that don't cater to you. I sound flip, but this is actually something I've struggled with personally. Its easy to see a genre you don't like doing well or to see a series you don't like get an anime and feel jealous, but you can't think of media as a zero sum game like that- its not healthy. Other people being happy doesn't mean you can't be happy. I don't like Idol boys or Utapri in general, but getting angry or sad about other people being happy with a movie only hurts yourself and tbh its something I'm still working on myself.

I'm not angry or jealous at all. BUT you can look at next season, or this season, or the season before this, and you can see there aren't anime made for men, and I don't mean teen boys, but adult, male otaku.
Literally every other group have more series being made for, and it's no wonder male otaku also don't bother with anime industry.

All you can see targeted to them are either a few gacha-based series which are only side materials, or the occasional ~zero budget productions. And at most one single title per year that is somehow targeted at them, not a gacha series, and have decent production values.

Maybe you just don't like anime anymore? Im sure there are tons of adult women who feel like anime doesn't cater to them as well. Also anime targetted at women is also extremely low budget and often has extremely low production values, like most anime.

You're onto something, I don't like anime anymore, it's among my least enjoyed medium now. There's like one or two titles a year I enjoy but that's it.
But that's because male otaku targeted moe shows have died from the industry, and degraded into 2 minute shorts series every few seasons, and I refuse to watch something with such short air time (like Null Peta), I rather take the time to hate it and complain about it.
Yeah, I have to repeat, I don't like anime anymore, it made me a sour ahole.

@ The above convo : There's still definitely a lot of anime being made for adult, male otaku. And most anime in general is made with straight guys in mind. But sometimes the ideal definition of entertainment shifts. Whether it comes down to what's making money, or just who's in charge and doing whatever they want is what it comes down to.

As for the topic, congrats to UtaPri! It was a blast to watch the movie in theaters here in the US (many thanks to SentaiFilmworks), and I can't wait for the home release. I'm probably gonna double-dip so I can get a JP LE, and buy it again when Sentai releases it~.

I'm looking forward to where the series goes and grows from here!

Clearly you haven't been to Japan. The majority of the anime ads, pachinko games, anime theme cafes/exhibitions feature cute anime girls. I recently went to the Lyrical Nanoha exhibit in Osaka to pick up some stuff for my friend. You can't tell me that dressing Nanoha, Feito and all the other girls in maid outfits was done to appeal to straight women.

I don't know how that is relevant to anime being aired on TV.
Those are old things lingering around, but really, new anime is not for those male otaku for sure. Not anymore. So you can be happy.
