Nintendo Switch is an awesome console. The fact that you can play that thing at home and on the go is the best of both worlds, it's like the home console meets Game Boy almost. I know Nintendo tried a home console you can take with you before with the GameCube, but they ultimately succeeded with the Switch. Plus with such a great library of games (my favorite being Super Mario Odyssey) you don't have to wonder why it's doing so well.

I bet you money when Super Nintendo World opens at Universal Studios Japan (and ultimately, the parks in Hollywood and Orlando), they'll probably include charging stations for those who plan on bringing their Switch with them.

Oh god, that would be so risky. I would not have my console or handheld with me at an amusement park in any shape or form, way too many opportunities for it to be stolen.

Or broken. I can picture someone riding a coaster with their Switch.

Well, to be fair, Universal has lockers for their roller coasters so no items can be lost or broken. I used them when I was at the Orlando park, and I'm sure they'll definitely be a requirement for the Switch.

How many of these sales numbers relate to people having to buy more then 1 because 1 bricked?

Serious question here... I am quite familiar with repairing different consoles.. and I haven't seen this many bricked units since the early Xbox 360's and their RRD.

It seems to be a good console besides that.

I originally scoffed at the idea of a portable gaming device that detaches into multiple parts, thinking that people might lose pieces of the console itself during transit. Today's figures, however, prove how general public is more protective of its electronic goods than my fears suggested.

I mean its a success, but not a big one. Why do they keep comparing it to the Wii U which is probably the worst selling console of all time, or forget to mention the fact that its technically in the same generation as the ps5 and xbox two or whatever they will call it, yet hardware wise its outclassed by a previous generation of hardware in the xbox one x and ps4 pro, hell even the none upgraded version regular ps4 and xbox one out class it. And the majority of its great games are just wii u games, repackaged on the switch.

The whole concept like everything nintendo does is half hearted and ultimately poor, but someone how tossing mario and zelda on it and and people ignore everything else. I mean here is an idea why dont you buy a 3ds and a ps4 or xbox. You will have a specialized console and hand held both of which are light years ahead of what the switch can do, why just because you want it all in one place. Haven't people learned from crap like Apple, dumbed down and overpriced hardware because people are too ignorant to multi task?

Reminds me of whats happening in Europe where 8 oz cans cost more than 12 oz cans for coke, because people are too lazy to limit their soda intake themselves, so they are more than willing to pay more for a smaller size to have someone smack them with a paper newspaper because they can't do anything themselves.

I know Ill get a reprimand for this post, because people like to get offended when someone points out the harsh truth to themselves, but I dont really care.

Not really offended, just gonna nitpick.

The Nintendo Switch is still considered part of the eighth generation alongside the Nintendo 3DS/New 3DS, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One/One X, PlayStation 4/PS4 Pro, and Nintendo Wii U. A new console of any kind by the same company does not necessarily mean the start of a new generation. The Wii U began the eighth generation because it released 6 years after the Nintendo Wii and was exponentially more powerful than its predecessor. The 3DS was the same to the DS, the Xbox One to the Xbox 360, and so on. The Switch, however, only surpasses the Wii U in terms of power by a far less significant margin. Its biggest upgrade is 2GB more RAM.

And for the record, the 3DS is not better in any way compared to the Switch, with the exception of portability as the Switch is an inch bigger than 3DS XL, and battery life as 3DS games are far less intensive and thus the battery lasts longer. I digress, since the Switch is considered a home console primarily, and its power barely surpasses that of the Wii U, it's still an eighth generation console. If Nintendo had said it was actually a handheld and not the hybrid, or home console that they claim, then it would be a ninth generation console because it vastly outclasses the 3DS and surpasses the PlayStation Vita.

Is it really that hard to believe that many gamers want the ability to either play on their TV or take that same game with them wherever they go? That they don't have to buy two separate systems to play all of Nintendo's games? It's not that hard to believe that people would buy a Switch just for Zelda, or Mario, or Pokemon especially. And there are people who didn't buy a Wii U, and never plan too, but they bought a Switch, and now they get to play the Wii U games they missed out on because those games are being ported to Switch. I don't see what's apparently so bad. And it keeps getting compared to the Wii U's sales because the Wii U was a failure, and thus it's a measuring stick for the Switch's success. Wii U sold 14 million in 5 years. Switch has sold nearly 20 million in one and a half. Another comparison is the Xbox One, which has sold probably around 40 million in 4 and a half. The Switch is on track to overtake the Xbox One in just one more year.

.......ummmm I'm pretty sure that wasn't the the intention behind the unnecessary handle that was added to the GameCube.

I agree with you that the Switch has yet to amass a worthwhile library that it can call its own. The majority only think that the Switch has great games, because they never bought those games on the Wii U. However, I can't really agree with you on the rest of what you said.

The 3DS is not anywhere near "light years ahead" of what the Switch can do. The 3DS is a 2011 handheld that is pretty much power-wise the equivalent of the GCN or Wii (not sure which it is closer to, but it's not a big deal since both systems were so similar power-wise). The Switch is much more powerful and can run Wii U games like Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8.

Sure, the 3DS might still be preferable as the handheld for some, as its size, clamp design, and battery life make it much easier to have on you. However, after playing the Switch handheld, the 3DS feels very elementary now. And games like Mario Kart 8 are far more comfortable to control on the Switch than Mario Kart 7 ever was on the 3DS. I was actually impressed.

The Switch is actually quite awesome (the regression to friend codes and the upcoming paid online service aside). I just wish it would get some more games to call its own. SSB Ultimate comes out later this year, and Pokemon will be coming in late 2019, but it's been a long wait for me aside from Odyssey.

I'm so glad you mentioned Odyssey. It's one of the best Mario games I've played in a long time, and think about the implications of that statement! It deserves all the critical acclaim and success it got, including becoming the Switch's best-seller.

Your rant about hardware and power had me laugh a lot. Anything that PS and Xbox can do, a PC can do a 100 times better. At least Nintendo tries to give the consumers another reason to buy their product expect their console exclusives. I do not own any console by the way.
