Yeah, that's the only way I'd ever buy a Switch, if Nintendo released a scaled-down version. I'll happily take a smaller screen and a lower resolution if it means it'll fit in my jacket pocket because, if I have to carry it around in a separate bag, it's just not convenient to me as a handheld.

Dumb idea. They should just let the 3DS die when the Switch proves to be a success. The whole appeal of the Switch is Nintendo merging their fantastic mobile market with their extremely fun home market. A smaller Switch is the only thing that makes any logical sense. Smaller and doesn't dock. Anything risks segregating into two separate handheld markets.
And to the person above me, the Switch really isn't very big. analog sticks probably stop it from being pocket friendly, but realistically if you have time to play a game where you're going, you should probably have a case or something to carry it anyway. 3DS XL is honestly too big for my pockets 90% of the time too. |

Would this handheld successor of which they speak not simply be a Switch that is partially broken or missing? If the docking unit goes amiss, the system becomes portable by fiat!

I still don't understand how replacing the 3DS with something that has 3 functional hours of battery life is going to do anything other than drive portable gamers towards iOS/Android gaming.

Battery life seems to depend on what sort of game you're playing. For example Breath of the Wild is about 3 hrs, and Nintendo in general says the battery will last up to 6 hours. So the life of the battery is about 3-6 hours. The most current new 3DS XL battery lasts around 3.5-6.5 hrs which is fairly close to the Switch. So doubt it'll push away portable gamers especially if they decide to create a slim version. I'm fairly certain if the Switch does well that they will let the 3DS die. Nintendo simply likes to play it safe, and have something to fall back on. |

Now I'm annoyed. The released the New 3DS recently, 2 years ago? Now they want to release something new and I bet my hat you won't be able to play the old 3DS cartridges on it. The more I think about it, the more HULK SMASH I get GDI.

Hum, that's what there doing, this handheld would just be a slimed down switch. The 3DS is pretty much already dead, you can look up the list of new release and it's very small. The switch is the new handheld and nintendo pulled out of the console market. |

For those that don't remember, the original 3ds premiered in 2011, so the portable console is more than due to be retired regardless of there home console cycle.
more than likely the 3d aspect is going to be garbage binned, aspects that will have to remain (at least in the first version) is an attempt to have a decent battery life (with "non intense games") a better service system for downloadable games, improved screen resolution, and numerous other features one expects when they upgrade a piece of computing hardware that they have delayed for more than half a decade. There will be an intent to sync up features of this new portable with the switch. The most significant thing the new portable system is going to have to compete with is the endless influx of IOS games, the irony being Nintendo need only flood its own digital library with quality Snes roms to satisfy the masses. |

It's officially 2.5-6 hours, and confirmed to be 3 for Zelda, which honestly isn't much different than the 3DS's battery life. And keep in mind that the 3DS can't play big and graphically intensive games like Breath of the Wild and Skyrim either (yes I know Skyrim is five years old, that's not the point). I don't really know why people are over-exaggerating this aspect so much. |
