While this does not really affect me, it especially sucks for the staff who lost part of their work. I hope things work out for the affected parties and that the site has been fixed.

I barely remember what I did yesterday, let alone a week ago so I'm not even sure what posts I lost. Oh well, if I don't remember then I guess it wasn't that important. And so far as my list goes, I only needed to re-add Iscua to my watch list.

Some things are just beyond your control, so don't worry too much about it.

I'm glad to see the site is back up and running.

That's very unfortunate, and I'm sorry to hear that. Sad

The site is still suffering stability issues with some pages being temporary unavailable, although the problem has been getting less frequent over the past half-an-hour.

Tony K. did try and warn us that over-quoting would spell disaster but we didn't listen, we just didn't understand.

We have been able to restore all the articles that we've posted in the past week, unfortunately the backups for our forum and encyclopedia we completely compromised, so we had to restore week old data.

We apologize profusely to all the members of our community who have lost their discussions, encyclopedia entries and myAnime entries in this past week.

Yeah looks like I lost some of my recent posts on this forum thanks to the shutdown. *facepalming and banging my head on my desk really hard*

ANN is still very old web technologies. this is due to happen alot.
They should atleast host their stuff on cloud like use amazon AWS or Azure. Amazon and Microsoft would backup your stuffs in different data center. If you pay more, you can even backup data in Asia, US, EU data center. hard to bring them all down unless asteroid destroy earth or something.

While I love AWS you don't have to use it or Azure to have off site backups. Get two servers at two different colos, and have one sftp into the other and dump the backups.

Hell you don't even have to run your app on an EC2 instance to use S3 as a place to dump your backups also just fyi. Besides the note states they reverted to a weekly backup anyway. It just so happens that is seems like the backup happened Sunday and they had the issue on the next Saturday, bad luck as they say.

Even then AWS had has major issues in the past like everyone.

The front end tech isn't old. They use something like rails for that. You can tell by the way the assets are stored in the default "/assets" and they have an MD5 digest on them.

Here are the docs on rails "asset pipeline" to explain what I mean.

Rails is also alive, despite what NODE.js evangelists will tell you.

Also phpBB is still supported, and despite what buzzword filled Ruby on Rails evangelists tell you php isn't dead either.

Lastly, just because something doesn't use css border-radius, or have some worthless parallax doesn't mean what is under the hood is old and worn down.

I noticed that your site was down. I was wondering what happened to you guys. I hope that the computer problems weren't too serious and I hope that tomorrow's articles won't be affected. I hope that this site wasn't hacked or something. A site about anime would rate low on the priorities of hackers, but you never know. Maybe someone wanted to screw around with everyone here.

Not my witty and insightful posts!

I am just happy that it is back up, I can imagine that losing about a week's worth of site information must be pretty stressful.

Hopefully bugs or server overload, or malfunctions caused the issues and not anything malicious

At first I thought my internet was acting up again, but when it didn't respond all day I knew something was wrong. Glad to see you back.
