With Basilisk just recently being released, I have begun to wonder about this series. It seems as though it has a decent story and a whole lot of action. I've also heard it praised as the "Ninja Romeo & Juliet." However, this is all I have heard about the series.

So, I have come here to ask you what you think of this series. Is it worth my money? Because if I do buy the first one, I will only buy the limited edition with the collector's case.

Now to give you a sample of my taste in anime, I will give you a few of the ones that I think may be like Basilisk that I liked:

Rurouni Kenshin - It had a decent story and a lot of action, along with some comedy. I certainly don't expect comedy from Basilisk, but if it is in there, I won't mind too much.

Samurai Deeper Kyo - I liked this series a lot, despite many people bashing it on being a horrible adaptation from the manga. But there was something about it that I just found entertaining. I recognized it as not being a particularly good series, but I just liked all the action. And Kyo was just a plain old badass.

Trigun - I only mention this title because it seems to me that with the ninja all having their own signature moves, it kind of reminds me of the Gung Ho Guns from Trigun. Is it something like that? Trigun was cool, but I was looking for the more "badass" rating from Basilisk.

Finally, I just plain like the name. And the box is pretty well designed; I think it will look good on my shelf. So, if you would, please tell me whether or not this anime is worth my money and time. I would be most grateful.

Basilisk is horrible. Please stay the hell away from it. The action, the story, everything is hideous. I almost threw up after watching some of it.
If you have money, don't waste it on this crap. Buy something else or spend it with a girl. Buying because it looks good on my shelf? That's ridiculous. Don't you have anything better to do with money? Dahm, I wish I had money like you.

I didn't really want to buy this series, I think that much like yourself I was going to rent/watch (IFC) and then decide on this series. However when I saw the limited edition box I had to buy it. The box is made of wood looks amazing, has some awesome special including a scroll and limited slipcase. Then there are the DVD has have the VA auditions, and also the usual extras from funimation.

That said I am really enjoying this series both sub and dub. The story has lots of storylines, and does have that Romeo and Juliet feel to it. However there does seems to a darker plot behind everything, and I am looking forward to buying vol 2.

Looking at the anime you enjoy I think that you will enjoy this series. Also you mention that you didn't think there would be comedy in this series, which is kinda right there are some characters that are lighter in mood that helps keep a balance between light and dark. Your Trigun mention (with Special moves) it's pretty dead on as well, each ninja has their style of fighting and of course their ultimate death dealer move. It's got a good mix of action with plot development (thus far) and I believe that this series will be a big hit once people get a chance to see it on IFC.
Till next time,

Delta Kiral

P.S. If you want any other info about vol 1 feel free to PM me.

I jsut recently picked up the first volume becasue I've been waiting for some good swordsman action and people said this was one that would fit my criteria. A lot of people also said it was really good, but if you are anything like me, you have to judge it for yourself when you watch it.

As for the first volume, I thought it was great. It had some pretty good battles. If you liked Samurai Deeper Kyo, one fight even reminded me of "The Red Mirage".

I just hope it ends well, but I think the beautifully animated fights will be enough even if the story turns crap, but a series with 20 ninjas fighting in a 24 episode span, I can care less about a "story".

Aside from Darc_knight's little rant/attack that I will just ignore, thank you for the expedite replies. I think I'll end up picking this series up because, as you said Delta, the wooden box is just superb looking.

I think it wise to avoid Darc_knight's comments. If your only able to say a series sucks or is crap without giving any reason then don't even bother to post. You aren't helping Webki with the decision of buying this series.

Webki I love my wooden box, even more so when you open it up it's has such a great smell.......anywho I can't wait for the second volume. I am very interested to see how the rest series plays out, and more importantly if Basilisk can keep the balance of action and plot/character development.
Till next time,

Delta Kiral

I'm currently watching it on TV in Canada, & it's a pretty decent series, at least so far. While the series has its action, it definitely has its funny moments.

Although, take note that this is a Gonzo title, so don't be suprised if the ending doesn't satisfy you. =\

Well I brought it, and I love the wooden box! I went to Best Buy and saw it on the shelf there. I picked it up and realized I had to have it. Not to mention I had a $20 off coupon. So, in total, I brought the series for $10. Not a bad purchase at all in my opinion.

Ok, I'm sure people buy a series based on the box. I'm sorry, I didn't know that. Kind of weird, but OK whatever. Be an anime geek/nerd/otaku, whatever the heck it is.

Note: I am not talking to Webki’s manager, but to Webki him/her self. The quote is being used as a reference.

If you want me to go into detail, I will. I didn't want to give away any spoilers, but, since Mr. Kiral insists, here you go.spoiler[There are characters that are so ugly that it's not even funny. First, let me tell you about this hairy ass crazy dude. He has hair growing from his nose that attack and kill people. Heck he even uses hair to climb trees and swing across from them. Secondly, there is a character who shoots snot towards people. I think it is even more disgusting than nose snot, because the color is green. Also, I think he's a fusion of a human and a Sydney Funnel Web Spider based on appearance. Thrice, there is a character that moves around naked(male) and can merge with walls. If you're into that stuff like Mr.Kiral, whom I assume favors based on stated comments. However, loving a wooden box is even more scary, so don't think I will ruin your Manager’s career. Fourthly, there are old people that seem like moving corpses. They are so disgustingly scary that, O mygod, I can't begin to describe, just ahhh! Since you bought it already, have fun. If you throw up, don't come to me, or to the person who gave birth to you...Just being beneficial, no offense at all. There are more disgusting characters, but I guess you'll see for yourself.]

On with the story.

"even if the story turns crap..." Huh, is my previous comment a rant/attack now? No, more like a fact.
Do you really want to watch an anime that has a horrible story?
Can really forget that fact and go on to waste couple of hours of your life? I was just trying to help you, but if you want to listen to Mr. Kiral while others are contradicting, be my guest.

Basically it's not FMA, so if you're like Darc_knight (and we dont need any more of him) then stay away from it.

You say "we" so proudly, but we is not just you. If you're talking about "we" as in your mother, sister, pet kangaroo named Mr. Jackass, I understand.

And, please, I don't think the purpose of ANN forums is to rephrase or praise others; whatever it is that you had said.

Seriously, quit trolling, this is annoying and disrepectful to other members who are trying to discuss a topic like adults. We don't need someone on our forums that acts like a 2 year old and thinks that he is right and everyone else is wrong. If you don't like the series, then don't talk about it, don't say "well this series sucks," or "you must be a nerd to watch this." If you think that everyone who might like this is a "geek/nerd/otaku," then grow up, not everyone will have the same views as you, and you have no right to try to push your view on to others.

Back on topic, I haven't seen Basilisk myself, so I can't really give you any info on it. Personally I would at least read the ANN review or w/e it is and watch at least the first three episodes before buying it, but that's just me. When it comes to buying anime, you shouldn't really worry about the looks of the animation as much as the storyline. People tend to only go for looks and tend to be disappointed when they realize that it's the same, dry action that you can get from many different animes, so it's good to do a little research on it before you actually buy it so you won't waste any money.

@ Moderators, eh I think this topic is done, he decided to buy it and Darc is just going to try to turn it into a flame war with his trolling posts that basically say he's right, everyone else is wrong, and his opinion is an absolute truth.

Trolling? I was just giving my view and people just started backslapping me. If you had read the first post you would understand. I think it is you who is trolling. Not only are you not helping Webki, but also you're talking about me, And, since you have not seen Basilisk, I don't think you have a place to speak. Do you think I don't have any right to speak my mind?
Of course I will defend myself in anyway what so ever; which human wouldn't?

Oh, that's very clever, Darc_knight. I guess since it's not FMA, then it's not the best anime ever, though.

Anyway, I heard Basilisk is going to IFC. That's correct, right?

As for it being a ninja Romeo and Juliet, they already have the live-action Shinobi.

But how's that going for you, Darc? You know... being clever.
Fight Club, anyone?
