I don't think that she thinks that way - but that she puts him on a pedestal, so high that he "feels" unattainable. Also I meant it more in a way that he's "everyone's property" kind of unattainable. As in, she wants that forbidden fruit.

She seems popular enough, and she definitely doesn't come across like the typical deranged stalker who thinks he loves her because he helped her out once.

Yeah, NOW she's like that. But what about in like 4th grade or something? When she was talking to Sawako on the bench outside, it seemed like she was 1) trying to show Sawako how he's like that with everyone and 2) may have been speaking from some amount of personal experience. Maybe she attained popularity through his assistance or affiliation. Sure, she may not be the stalker type, but she could have originally been very shy because of her manipulative side. As in, she felt like if she talked to people they may see her for what she is/was. She obviously has plenty of self-confidence but is lying in order to appear a certain way - perhaps to hide arrogance. Maybe, after exposure to his kindness, she tried finding ways to mimic that behavior to appear less snooty.

I'm not talking about the next episode preview, but the title screens at the start of each episode (right after the OP). They usually feature Sawako in a bunny suit looking at the episode title, and maybe a cute animal or two thrown in for good measure. Very cutesy, very random, but I like it all the same.

Ah. . . now I get it. Ok. I usually skip over the intro or take the time while it's playing to get a drink or some munchies so I usually miss the title screens. Razz Went back and watched them after I read this. She's super cute.

The bit about Kurumi being French is probably something you got from a bad fansub translation. What is said is that she is maru de furansu ningyo mitai, "just like a French (bisque) doll".

Thanks for the clarification. In one episode they definitely translated that to a doll, but in the first ep she was in, they were translating it as "French" and THEN saying she looked like a doll, after establishing she was "French" first. Thanks so much. I'll definitely be careful when I hear that phrase next time.

Just avoid speedsubs. There's a reason they're fast. Half an arse is better than no arse, but it's still half an arse.

So I've been looking through top 100 the other day(top 50 is not enough anymore) and I noticed Kimi ni Todoke at #87, checked ratings and - OMG!!!. This really made me feel like I am missing something. Even though I didn't quite like first episode of this series I'll give it another chance, and hopefully marathon, as soon as final episode comes out. Sleeper hit?

I encourage you to give it a second chance, Hentai_JP, but I can't guarantee you'll like it even if you persist. The first eppie was fairly representative of the series as a whole, imo. Those of us who love it, tend to REALLY, REALLY love it, but it does leave some people cold.

Well sometimes it can be good to go against certain things, I have watched a bunch of anime including this one, that I was put of first by the atmosphere. But some of those have become some of my favirout, teaching one that it is good to brouden ones horizons, and you can't always trust your feelings of just reading the desription.

So Kurumi begins to show her "true" colors in Episode 10. She is pulling some questionable manipulation, but can we really hold it against her too much?

The last statement of the episode definitely should get the ball rolling plot wise between Sawako and Ume-chan (tee hee).

Hentai, give it a roll. I know that those of us who enjoy the show absolutely love it. It's a love-hate relationship with Kimi ni Todoke.

Episode 11

A pretty meaty episode, I think! spoiler[I was so proud of Sawako when she told Kurumi that she would not be able to support her in her desire to become Kazehaya's goil. I had predicted a while back that Sawako would end up trying to do just that because she'd misunderstand Kazehaya's feelings and think that is something he would want. Good for the show to not take that predictable route and demonstrate that Sawako is not some pushover. The part where Sawako was looking around for the source of Kurumi's non-cute voice was hilarious. So like her that she couldn't imagine those words were coming directly from Kurumi herself.]

I am also more convinced than ever that spoiler[Kurumi isn't an out and out black hat. Incredibly insensitive and self-absorbed? Absolutely. Manipulative and conceited? Yes. But she kind of reminds me of the model chick from Toradora! - the one who acted all nice to people's faces but in reality was a bitch, but also in reality was kind of a nice person in her own "special" way. I think Kurumi is in that mold but with more gray.]

My biggest complaint about Kimi ni Todoke so far? The episodes just fly by too friggin' fast.

Episode 11 was great, I like how Kurumi has turned out, spoiler[she is manipulative and can be mean, though she is quite like Ami from Toradora, especialy with the showing true self thing.] I think Sawako should get applauded for her honesty, spoiler[she didn't cave in like most would trying to be nice, and instead expressed her feelings. I loved it when they had that talk of names (Death Note reference FTW), Sawako said her name (Umi) was cute, and strangely Kurumi continued to call her Sawako, in a way nicer then many others. Though it looks like Kurumi is trying to force Sawako with Ryu, I wonder if this might also effect Yoshida, but hopefully this wont work.]

I have to say I felt a certain level of satisfaction with the conversations between Sawako and Kurumi in this episode.

Well, episode eleven further justified a gnawing suspicion I had; that this series will not be twelve episodes long. And the Encyclopedia kind of confirmed it. Which is actually incredibly awesome news, and it means we won't have to wait three or six or twelve months for a second season. Although part of me was hoping that they'd wrap everything up in twelve episodes and keep it short and simple and sweet. Guess love ain't that easy, eh?

As for the episode itself, it was very funny. It is excellent to see the series has not lost its quirky brand of humour. But like Blood- said, the episode went by too fast. Now I have to wait another 167.5 hours for the next one, and it cannot come soon enough. Bah.

Seriously? That's the best news I've heard all day.

As for episode 11, it was good stuff. I really was expecting something else withspoiler[ the shoe... like, oh, I dunno, maybe Kurumi throwing it over the fence. Im sure she was thinking of it though.] But I'm glad that didn't actually happen. Kurumi has way more going on than being a stereotypical "mean girl"... I think Blood- got right by comparing her to model chick from Toradora.

Yeah, the Encyclopedia says it has twenty-four episode titles, although it actually doesn't (only twelve). But it does have twenty-four air-dates, with the final episode scheduled for March 23. Unless the person who edited Kimi ni Todoke's entry was just massively speculating, then I will believe it for now until told otherwise. On related notes, Wikipedia doesn't know how long it will go for (at least not the English-language version), and though I visited the official website of Kimi ni Todoke I couldn't tell anything on the account of not knowing Japanese.

Alright you bastards haha.

This show is growing on me. I still wouldn't rate it a masterpiece but Sawako's voice doesn't make me want to stab someone now, and I like her because it is rare to find someone so blatantly honest about herself and what she thinks (I guess it's easy to be honest when you are never going to hurt someones feelings with your own innocent opinions and thoughts). Maybe it's because of the conflict of the last couple of episodes, or maybe I just didn't like the beginning because it was all so glowy or for whatever reason, but pretty much thanks to your determination to praise this show it has actually started to suck me in.

I like the fact that Kurumi exists to provide tension to an otherwise (imo) stagnant plot, but I could never accept a person like that in real life - I would completely explode. spoiler[Considering how upfront and nice Sawako has been to her despite her cunning manipulation I guess you can't really expect her to back down, she's just going after the guy she likes the only way she knows how. But damn is she a bitch. I can't believe she's trying to make Sawako believe she'd like any guy, pick the next closest one and attempt to throw her at him like a chip to a seagull. Grrr. Let Kazehaya make up his own mind? Maybe if she spent as long hanging out with him and just being herself as she did trying to screw Sawako over she might actually have had a chance.]

Welcome to the dark side, Skylark! Good for you for sticking with it even though you had doubts. I think you'll be rewarded for your time investment. That is awesome fricken' news about it being 24 eppies. I was quite confident even if the first season was only 12 that there would be a second season, but I'm really glad to hear I won't have to wait for it. A very nice Christmas gift, indeed.

If I had to guess, I'd say next episode is going to be confession time, so the second half of the series will focus on Sawako and Kazehaya as an actual couple now that they are past the "Reaching Out" stage.

YAY! I'm glad this is going to run more than 12 eps. Originally, that was part of the reason I wanted to watch it (short and sweet), but now that I'm hooked, I would love to see this go on just a "bit" more. 36 would be too long, but 24 feels just right. Can't wait until this is released in the US. I want a nice Limited!

So, ep 11 - awesome ep! I still can't stand Kurumi and I still think that she's a complete snob. Sure, she probably does have some redeeming qualities in there (hidden underneath the layer of stinking mold), but I'd never relate her to Ami from Toradora. Why? I don't think Kurumi puts on a spoiler[mature] facade like Ami did. Ami pretended to be that way in order to be popular and well liked. While Kurumi pretends to be cute and approachable for the same reason, their underlying personalities are not that similar. Ami, though she plays by her own rules, is not just putting on the act for a specific guy. Kurumi definitely has a goal: get Kazehaya. Also, while she likes being popular and well loved, it seems like she would willingly swap social roles with Sawako if it meant getting more attention from Kazehaya. Although, she'd probably end up regretting it.

I too am glad that Sawako spoiler[stood up to Kurumi ] which allowed the series to avoid a few stereotypical situations. As far as Ryu goes, I'm not sure if spoiler[he would be interested in Sawako or not. I kinda thought that he had a thing going with Chizu-chan.] If they do decide to have Sawako spoiler[try seeing if she has deeper feelings for Ryu], it could probably end up causing issues for spoiler[her and Chizu-chan] that will probably end up getting resolved within an episode or two. I don't think it's anything that could cause major damage in that department though. Besides, I think her other friend would step in and help Sawako sort things out.

Was there a Death Note reference? I completely missed it. Sad and I just finished that series too. *pouts*

Loved the [spoiler]part where Sawako was searching for Kurumi's un-cute voice[spoiler] and definitely when Kazehaya spoiler[showed tiny signs of irritation when the other guys were saying Sawako's name correctly and trying to figure it out.] Pretty cute episode.

Sill loving the show. I think I appreciate it a little more every second. Anime smile

Definitely the best show of the season for me.

That was one of my favourite scenes this episode. spoiler[Kurumi but Sawako in the 'bastards who call be Ume' diary, then Sawako expresses her joy of being put in a diary (oblivious of the 'bastards' comment)]. That was really cute has well as many other scenes.

24 episodes huh. Hopefully it can stay engaging for this long because I seriously doubt that Sawako and Kazehaya will get together for a long while. I feel it may take too long with the relationship thing like they did with the Love Hina manga. Shall be interesting to see how Ryu deals with the current situation next episode.
