Just read this on Matsuya Maya:
Young Magazine has announced that a movie based on CLAMP's manga xxxHOLIC is to be released theatrically in 2005. Source: Moon Phase. Not unexpected that a CLAMP work would be adapted to anime but I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to read the news anyway I have been waiting for this for so long now. XXXholic was the manga I wanted to be animated the most at the moment. The artstyle is just so awesome I can't wait to see how they'll handle it for animation, and oi, Yuuko and Watanuki... animated. *squeals* I can't wait to find out what voice actors got the roles. Im kind of surprised it's going to be a movie though. Usually it's on ova, or tv series, but hey, movie means bigger budget for the animation, so yay!!

If they make an XXXholic anime, they've gotta make a Tsubasa anime, right?

Not really, though it would be really nice. They could easily skip the Tsubasa connection with XXXholic, especially if they make the movie based off a single chapter of the manga or something. Tsubasa RC is only mentioned in about 3 chapters of the XXXholic manga. I could be wrong, but I think a Tsubasa anime would cause a lot of complications in rights... that is if animation studios own the anime version of a certian CLAMP character. Example: Let's say Madhouse was animating Tsubasa. Since Tokyo Movie Shinsha animated Rayearth, could Madhouse still use Mokona? Since ANIMATE animated RG Veda, could Madhouse use Ashura? I think Miyuki-chan is also in question in this subject, but then again I'm just assuming this problem. I have no idea if the companies actually own the animated versions of the characters. Does anyone have any idea about this? |

This is great news. xxxHolic is one of my favorite new manga series. I hope this movie is simply a story in the xxxHolic world, as opposed to trying to compress the entire story to 2 hours.

I don't think they really could do that to XXXholic... could they? For them to do that, they'd have to cram in the Tsubasa stuff, and try to have that make sense. I'm thinking/hoping it'll be based on the first chapter, along with maybe one of the "cases" of the manga, or maybe even a new one created just for the movie. XXXholic really doesn't have some epic story going on at the moment, just little episodic things going on concerning costumers of Yuuko's shop. Ah well, we won't be able to find out about it untill more details are released. |

It's about a guy named Watanuki who is "cursed" with a sort of 6th sense that allows him to see demons/monsters/spirits. He doesn't enjoy this at all, and wishes he couldn't see them anymore. One day while running away from the visions he comes across an odd little shop he never noticed before, and inside he meets Yuuko and her two strange servant girls. Yuuko makes a deal with him, and takes away his power to see the spirit stuff, and in turn Watanuki has to work off his debt to her by helping her out in her "wish" shop. Pretty much all Yuuko does is sit around and smoke... stuff, and help out people usually with her wish granting capability, as long as the person can pay her back with something of equal value. *likes it* |
