It depends on how explicit and gory it is. But I don't know of any games that actually got AO for violence. |
Well, I don't think it's the level of violence+gore, as much as it is how it is being portrayed. Let me explain.....
Game A) You are a super ultra mega police robo mecha god, with a million guns and knives, and you hunt down terrorists and chop them up and shoot them and stuff. You spray blood everywhere, there's freaking body parts everywhere, blood+guts constantly non stop!!!!!!! Kill those terrorists!
Game B) You are a maniacal Serial killer, bent on teaching foolish innicents to appreciate their lives. In order to do this, you capture them, and torment them with sicks and twisted tools and methods, such as screwdrivers, cutting off various body parts, bleeding them out, carving out their eyeballs, smashing their skulls in, making incisions that lead to slow and painful deaths. The only real music here is the screaming cries of pain and torment coming from your victims mouths before their demise. There is blood all over everything, and (duh) alot of body parts and gory gore.
which is neccessarily worse? Assuming they both have the same blood+gore, I'd assume B to be the more likley to grab up the AO rating.

It could depend on how they disect humans in the games, but I agree, no game has gotten AO'd for violence. I've heard that there's been some X-rated movies for violence.....

the only reason movies get x rated for violence is because its much more realistic than games. after all, seeing real humans getting chopped up is a lot worse than computer animations.

Damn this does sound like a chat room. I feel like I know the three of you, you know who you are, a whole lot better... you're like family now.
Anyways, I've played a lot of violent games, and I feel some of them should have AO ratings. Heads being torn off, limbs flying in the air, and thats only Resident Evil. But in God Of War, actually watching Kratos rip off heads, still got a Mature. I agree that with GTA SA, the ESRB people were being dicks and got mad because they were not informed... even though the sex can only be accessed with a cheating peripheral, and not with just the disc by itself.
Killer 7 sounds like a good game now. I havn't heard much about it, just the fact it kept being delayed, so I never bothered to pick it up. I know I saw it for $20 the other day, i guess it didn't do too good.
Back on the title of the subject, I still have no idea what kind of game Elfen Lied would be. I can't see the anime fitting any type of genre. Maybe a simple Beat-Em-Up, but even then. I would be interested in seeing a unique way of controlling all 4 Vectors seperately... you know killing 4 guys, or girls, at the same time with different vectors. I see it from a distance, but still too blurry.

Manhunt was sick as f*ck. Not even funny. Even mirrored a few real life crimes, i really didn't like it. Some stuff is just too wrong...a guy watching people murder and torture eachother on tape for pleasure? please....ech.
Now, about Joel's comment on K7.....nah, It did kinda bomb. But it's like Katamari Damacy as opposed to RE4....it's a great game, however it was what some call a "cult hit" as is the deal with most overly bloody games....
However God of War was amazing, the XBOX360 release looks ever bloodier and better! can't freaking wait!

No offense intended but, Elfen Lied video game would probably be horrible. A large stinking pile of shit. Regardless of how great the anime is.
Anime video games are not known to be good games. They don't win game awards for best games.
The don't have large budgets and top notch programmers.
The concepts arent even designed well. Even the basic game play is flawed and unbalanced. With usual horrible graphics and trashy game play mechanics. Let alone the terrible animation. Sure there are a few that are decent but for the most part they are not even close to being good games.
Most of the anime video games only sell well in Japan. With the exception of a few anime games like DBZ. And that game still isnt good. In practically any standard. Look at the ratings and reviews from experienced people and not mindless slaved anime fans. They are not good games. I have played the game from personal experience. Its not even close to being one of the best fighing games.
The only people that buy anime games are usually anime fans.
Thats because they love the series and are mindless fans who will buy anything with the brand name. If you take an average gamer that enjoys good games. And you hand them an anime game they'll probably be saying WTF this game sucks!
Why are you trying to discuss whether or not the Elfen Lied game is coming out or not? Because if it does come out it will not be good thats a promise. You should be hoping that the game doesnt come out so the franchise won't lose any of its dignity.

Thank You so much Kin7cato for your expert opinion on this topic... that was sarcasm. And saying that DBZ isn't good, I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but have you seen the reviews on this game? X-Play even gave it a good rating, and they always bash on anime games. One more thing,

To answer your question, this is a forum. What do people do in forums? We discuss things. Someone came across a picture that might have been an Elfen Lied video game, but was fan art, so it brought about a discussion. Have you even read the other posts and realized that an Elfen Lied video game is only one of the many topics being discussed. I could ask you the same thing about the topic you started, "Whats the highest selling anime DVD of all time?". Why even discuss your topic? Ever heard of Google? Maybe you can look it up yourself, you wanted to hear what other people thought, or you're too lazy, so you just posted it up on the ANN message boards. Now, I bring up what kind of game Elfen Lied would be because I'm just curious what the best genre would be for it.

So the ONLY people who buy anime are USUALLY anime fans? Sherlock Holmes, is that you? Oh wait, maybe you're Detective Conan. Also I meant to point out that you said "only", and then negated that comment by saying "usually".
Congratulations on making my day. How did you know I love people who attempt to insult, yet are idiots?

Joel anime games are not known for being good games.
You can't even name five anime games that are good.
DBZ would not even be considered as one of the best fighting games. Or even a good game at that. And the rating from X-play is probably a pity rating.
The major editors for magazines like Game Informer, Game Pro or websites like 1up ,Game spy, IGN, are not anime biased. The professionals raters are straight forward unlike you. Anime games are not known for being good. The only reason they sell is because of the mindless fans. They are complete slaves to the franchise.
If anime games are so good why arent casual gamers (non anime fans) buying the games? Its because they are poor games. A lack of quality. And it shows.
Joel I don't care about you or your opinions. Your wrong when it comes to gaming. Anime games are on the low end of the stick for being bad. Thats just the way they are. None of the games win game of the year. Or are even highly honored. Unless its in Japan.
You are exactly what I am talking about a mindless anime fan that will buy anything with the brand name on it. And defend it foolishly probably because you have DBZ and the truth hurts.

Good anime based games are about as rare as good movie based games. But that doesn't mean they don't exist or can't be done.
