Do you have nothing else to do than point out my "coin flip"? I chose them because I am at least vaguely familiar with franchise unlike HOLY & HOLD from sCRYed . If you had noticed, some of the voters didn't even put down their reasoning, or merely said it's "meh", "coin flip" or "random" vote. But I guess that Princess Lover! incident is still haunting you huh... so that explains why it was my post that got to you. |

Group A-1
Section 9, Ghost in the Shell franchise Group A-2 Nadesico crew, Martian Successor Nadesico
Group A-3 Team Rocket, Pokemon franchise This is a tentative vote against the SOS brigade, based on what I've read so far. Group A-4 Team Urameshi, Yu Yu Hakusho Group A-5 Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV Group A-6 Amaterasu crew, Starship Operators Group A-7 I-Jin, Read or Die OVA Group A-8 Hellsing Organization, Hellsing franchise Another tentative vote against. (But this time against the Kira Taskforce rather than the SOS brigade) Group A-9 Muroe Kendo Club, Bamboo Blade Group A-10 NERV, Neon Genesis Evangelion Group A-11 Court Guard Squad 11, Bleach Group A-12 Le Secret du Roi, Le Chevalier d’Eon Group A-13 Trapnest, NANA I don't really like Tokko. They just don't really feel like a team to me. More like a bunch of Asian Wesley Snipeses. Group A-14 Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise Group A-15 Odd Jobs Jin, Gintama (NOTE: originally “Yorozuya Gin-san Crew”) Group A-16 Soyokaze crew, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor |

What would we expect anyway. It's the beginning and there're lots of teams we don't know about out there. Things like this should be expected. If I could, I'd rather not even vote between teams I don't know. And in my opinion, people saying "I like", "random" or "coin flip". They're all the same before the tournament's goal which is not directed towards popularity. |

First off, I've berated people in previous tournaments for basing their votes on popularity rather than merit. You haven't been singled out. Secondly, I believe there is nothing wrong with coin tosses in the first round. I made a few myself. So you made an incorrect assumption about me. Thirdly, you did not say that your vote was based on a coin flip. If you are going to give false information or omit true information, then do not blame people for not being able to read your mind. In fact, as a general rule, never hold it against anyone for their inability to read minds. Fourthly, Princess Lover!? Really? Get over it. |

Can't believe it's been such a long time since I have posted! Been way too busy, but it looks like I would will be able to squeeze in a bit of time to take of my duty to vote this week. Love these tourneys to death and I'm a bit sad I totally missed to ball on sending in a bracket.
Votes! Group A-1 Section 9, Ghost in the Shell franchise vs. Angel Brigade, Galaxy Angel franchise Voting for: Section 9 Because: Superior team work, cohesion, team identity, and they manage to get things done effectively. As a far as I am concerned they are easily one of the strongest teams in this tournament if not the strongest. Group A-2 Nadesico crew, Martian Successor Nadesico vs. HOLD/HOLY, sCRYed Voting for: Nadesico Because: Voting against their opposition. Group A-3 Team Rocket, Pokemon franchise vs. SOS Brigade, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Voting for: Team Rocket Strangely enough, this is the match I feel the most strongly about this round. Can't say I think Team Rocket is top tier material, but against the likable, but dysfunctional SOS brigade I believe it is a clear decision. The SOS brigade is ruled by a tyrant who sees her subordinates as object and just things to amuse her than people. She has little to no respect for any of other followers. The ways she gets anything done is often through extortion. I agree completely with Dorcas and he is much better with words than I am. This shouldn't be close by merits, but considering the sheer popularity of Haruhi I am not surprised that this match is still very much contested. Agreed entirely that Haruhi is not the weak link. In fact all of the characters are, Kozumi isn't honest about his goals and comes off as fake far too many times. Mikuru is cute as a button, and I feel for her, but that's about the only way she serves as the club other than to be sexually extorted by Haurhi. Due to all the abuse she endures, I bet there's times she wishes she could leave. And at times I think the only reason she stays is because of her organization. Yuki keeps her participation minimal or non-existent while her ultimate goals remain elusive and unrevealed. Kyon, while he never would admit, is actually one of the reasons why Haruhi is as a bad of the leader as she is. He performs his tasks begrudgingly, and is against the core mission of the group. He actually wants to be surrounding by normalcy while the organization's main goal goes against that as about as much as possibly can. Kyon also continually questions why he's even a part of the group. Loved the series, but the team has far too many weaknesses to even get passed a team that's organized and well unified, but defined by failure team, such as Team Rocket. And where they fail they still succeed in my mind by providing ample dose of quality comedic relief. Group A-4 Six God-Generals, Tales of the Abyss vs. Team Urameshi, Yu Yu Hakusho Voting for: Team Urameshi Because: Going by the comments. Group A-5 Shibuya Psychic Research, Ghost Hunt vs. Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV Voting for: Paper Sisters Because: Impressed by what has been said about this group. Group A-6 Amaterasu crew, Starship Operators vs. Digidestined-Frontier group, Digimon Frontier Voting for: Amaterasu crew Group A-7 Magic User's Club, Magic User's Club vs. I-Jin, Read or Die OVA Voting for:Magic User's Club Because: The comments seem to imply that neither group is strong, but more people seem to have an issue with I-Jin. Group A-8 Kira Investigation Task Force, Death Note vs. Hellsing Organization, Hellsing franchise Voting for: Hellsing Orginization Because: The Kira Investigation Task Force has far too many pawns for my liking. Group A-9 Colonel Mustang’s squadron, Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Muroe Kendo Club, Bamboo Blade Voting for: Colonel Mustang’s squadron Group A-10 NERV, Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Blade Children, Spiral Voting for: NERV Because: They have significant flaws, but they deserve the early win here. Group A-11 Seishu Prefab Team, Cross Game vs. Court Guard Squad 11, Bleach Voting for: Court Squad 11 Group A-12 Team Earth, Oban Star Racers vs. Le Secret du Roi, Le Chevalier d’Eon Voting for: Le Secret du Roi Because: Outstanding team at first, but they have issues later in the series -- still deserve the win here. Group A-13 Trapnest, NANA vs. Tokko, Tokko Voting for: Tokko Group A-14 The Academy Steel Angel Kurumi vs. Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise Voting for: Knight Sabers Because: Key said some good things about them and it looks they will have the votes as well. Group A-15 Odd Jobs Jin, Gintama (NOTE: originally “Yorozuya Gin-san Crew”) vs. Game Club, When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koroni franchise Voting for: Odd Jobs Jin Because: Wasn't impressed with Game Club first season since that's all I've seen. Group A-16 Chronos, Black Cat vs. Soyokaze crew, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor Voting for: Soyokaze crew Last edited by farichada on Wed Sep 09, 2009 11:06 am; edited 2 times in total |

Group A-3 Team Rocket, Pokemon franchise vs. SOS Brigade, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya VOTE CHANGE!!!Team Rocket Group A-4 Six God-Generals, Tales of the Abyss vs. Team Urameshi, Yu Yu Hakusho Team Urameshi just because. Group A-5 Shibuya Psychic Research, Ghost Hunt vs. Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV Shibuya Psychic Institute because I liked that series better tan R.O.D. Group A-6 Amaterasu crew, Starship Operators vs. Digidestined-Frontier group, Digimon Frontier Digisdestied gotta give "Kids" shows a chance Group A-7 Magic User's Club, Magic User's Club vs. I-Jin, Read or Die OVA Magic User's Club because I don't want to vote for the bad guys and the MUC were fun to watch! Group A-8 Kira Investigation Task Force, Death Note vs. Hellsing Organization, Hellsing franchise Helsing shades of grey but that's one hell of a vampire. Group A-9 Colonel Mustang’s squadron, Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Muroe Kendo Club, Bamboo Blade Col. Mustang's Squad because they work well together, even if their leader is a lecherous miniskirt chaser! Group A-10 NERV, Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Blade Children, Spiral Nerv mainly because they other series really didn't explain the reason behind the blade children. Group A-11 Seishu Prefab Team, Cross Game vs. Court Guard Squad 11, Bleach VOTE CHANGE!!!!!!Seishu Prefab Team Group A-12 Team Earth, Oban Star Racers vs. Le Secret du Roi, Le Chevalier d’Eon Le Sceret Du Roi I'm more familiar with them. Group A-13 Trapnest, NANA vs. Tokko, Tokko Tokko because they want to save the world even knowing that they will have to die. Group A-14 The Academy Steel Angel Kurumi vs. Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise Knight Sabers I'm more familar with them. Group A-15 Odd Jobs Jin, Gintama (NOTE: originally “Yorozuya Gin-san Crew”) vs. Game Club, When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koroni franchise Game Club for lack of not really caring either way. Group A-16 Chronos, Black Cat vs. Soyokaze crew, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor Soyokaze Crew, I voted for one crew led by an idiot, why shouldn't I vote for another? Group A-1
Section 9, Ghost in the Shell franchise vs. Angel Brigade, Galaxy Angel franchise Section 9 Easily a favorite to win it all, and well deserved as well. Group A-2 Nadesico crew, Martian Successor Nadesico vs. HOLD/HOLY, sCRYed Martian Successor Nadesico not the best team, but I favor them based on what I have heard. Group A-3 Team Rocket, Pokemon franchise vs. SOS Brigade, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Team Rocket Agreed, Team Rocket is better than voting for one the most dysfunctional teams in this tournament. Haurhi treats her team like little playthings, and the organization seems more devoted to just pleasing Haurhi than actually fulfilling it's core mission. Group A-4 Six God-Generals, Tales of the Abyss vs. Team Urameshi, Yu Yu Hakusho Team Urameshi Group A-5 Shibuya Psychic Research, Ghost Hunt vs. Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV Paper Sisters Group A-6 Amaterasu crew, Starship Operators vs. Digidestined-Frontier group, Digimon Frontier Amaterasu crew Group A-7 Magic User's Club, Magic User's Club vs. I-Jin, Read or Die OVA Magic User's Club Group A-8 Kira Investigation Task Force, Death Note vs. Hellsing Organization, Hellsing franchise Helsing Organization Group A-9 Colonel Mustang’s squadron, Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Muroe Kendo Club, Bamboo Blade Col. Mustang's Squad Group A-10 NERV, Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Blade Children, Spiral Blade Children Nerv may deserve the win, but I don't think Nerv is as nearly as close knit or united team as the comments would make you believe. Group A-11 Seishu Prefab Team, Cross Game vs. Court Guard Squad 11, Bleach Court Guard Squad 11 Tentative vote. Even after reading the guides, I can't say a team has an edge. Group A-12 Team Earth, Oban Star Racers vs. Le Secret du Roi, Le Chevalier d’Eon Le Secret Du Roi They certainly have their issues, but they are also a closely knit team with unified mission. Group A-13 Trapnest, NANA vs. Tokko, Tokko Tokko Group A-14 The Academy Steel Angel Kurumi vs. Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise Knight Sabers Seems like an easy pick based on the way the votes have been going. Group A-15 Odd Jobs Jin, Gintama (NOTE: originally “Yorozuya Gin-san Crew”) vs. Game Club, When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koroni franchise Game Club They have their epic moments, but I'm not sure how they will compare against stronger teams. Group A-16 Chronos, Black Cat vs. Soyokaze crew, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor Soyokaze Crew |

Your justifications in both of these votes seem to strongly indicate that you're actually intending to vote for the other team. Can you clarify before I start recording votes? |

That's what I get for copying and pasting and not changing my reasoning. Will go back and change this.

I'm disappointed that the Seishu Prefab Team is being so thoroughly trounced by Court Guard Squad 11. Squad 11's unofficial motto is "You must NOT help each other no matter what." Their opponents are an actual team that train and work together.
Badassery isn't really an indication of team quality, and I'm pretty sure that tournament only managed third place when we were choosing our topic. |

We probably should be grateful that they've even got eight votes so far given how new and little-watched Cross Game is, especially compared to Bleach. Once I get caught up on things (I'm very behind on recording votes right now), I may make a more detailed argument on them. |

Here are my counts for this round:
Bolded team names are currently winning. Group A-1 Section 9, Ghost in the Shell franchise vs. Angel Brigade, Galaxy Angel franchise 24 - 1 Group A-2 Nadesico crew, Martian Successor Nadesico vs. HOLD/HOLY, sCRYed 19 - 6 Group A-3 Team Rocket, Pokemon franchise vs. SOS Brigade, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 14 - 11 Group A-4 Six God-Generals, Tales of the Abyss vs. Team Urameshi, Yu Yu Hakusho 22- 3 Group A-5 Shibuya Psychic Research, Ghost Hunt vs. Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV 5 - 20 Group A-6 Amaterasu crew, Starship Operators vs. Digidestined-Frontier group, Digimon Frontier 18 - 7 Group A-7 Magic User's Club, Magic User's Club vs. I-Jin, Read or Die OVA 17 - 8 Group A-8 Kira Investigation Task Force, Death Note vs. Hellsing Organization, Hellsing franchise 5 - 20 Group A-9 Colonel Mustang’s squadron, Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Muroe Kendo Club, Bamboo Blade 17 -8 Group A-10 NERV, Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Blade Children, Spiral 20 - 5 Group A-11 Seishu Prefab Team, Cross Game vs. Court Guard Squad 11, Bleach 8 - 17 Group A-12 Team Earth, Oban Star Racers vs. Le Secret du Roi, Le Chevalier d’Eon 4 - 21 Group A-13 Trapnest, NANA vs. Tokko, Tokko 16 - 9 Group A-14 The Academy Steel Angel Kurumi vs. Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise 4 - 21 Group A-15 Odd Jobs Jin, Gintama (NOTE: originally “Yorozuya Gin-san Crew”) vs. Game Club, When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koroni franchise 6 - 19 Group A-16 Chronos, Black Cat vs. Soyokaze crew, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor 6 -19 A lot of fairly clear cut decisions, but A-3 is still competitive, and I would suggest reading the arguments and evaluate the qualities of the team before you vote based on likability, familiarity or epicness. Dorcas_Aurelia has good arguments against the SOS Brigade while Key offers a brief debunkment to these attacks and asserts that the brigade still has the edge.
Considering this evaluation criteria, I believe that Team Rocket has a fairly substantial edge over the brigade. While they are humorous, and they are undeniably likable they have an inability to work together as a team. Kyon has vested interest against the club's primary mission since he like normalcy while Haruhi wants to seek anything but that. This primary mission seems to lose it focus and the club quickly degrades into a club that simply exists to please Haruhi. Combined with the fact that Haurhi treats her fellow team members like dirt and a few of the other members have special undisclosed agendas within their own organizations (Yuki, Mikuru, and Koizumi) make the brigade one of the weakest teams at its core if not one of the most chaotic. |

I'm only familiar with about five of these teams, so this is going to be based on the write up a fair bit.
Group A-1 Section 9, Ghost in the Shell franchise vs. Angel Brigade, Galaxy Angel franchise Vote: Angel Brigade Group A-2 Nadesico crew, Martian Successor Nadesico vs. HOLD/HOLY, sCRYed Vote: Nadesico Crew[/c] [b]Group A-3 Team Rocket, Pokemon franchise vs. SOS Brigade, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Right, one I can actually talk about. I'm very fond of both series, but looking at them as teams I'm going to go for Team Rocket. SOS Brigade's mission is, as stated by Haruhi, to find and have fun with aliens, espers, time travellers and sliders; so they have fulfilled said mission pretty much perfectly. (Let's say 80%, since only 4/5ths of the members know they have done so...) When push comes to shove, I'd say you can be reasonably sure of them working as a team; which is basically asking how much Kyon can trust the others, I guess. (That is, if the team had to unite to face a threat against the orders of the higher ups in the time travellers/aliens/organisation, would they?) Yuki is, I'd say, his strongest convert. spoiler[Even disobeying her superiors to reorder the world for herself to be with Kyon]. But she is very alien; it's sometimes hard to predict how she would react. Mikuru (younger) is trustworthy enough, though the older version is probably not to be trusted; as such, she's possibly the biggest threat. I'm almost convinced she was placed here by the time travellers to seduce Kyon in case they need a hidden ace. His infatuation with her has proven dangerous on numerable occasions. And Koizumi is hard to fathom; he seems nice enough, but it could all be a front. Team Rocket's goal, on the other hand, is to rule the world with Pokémon (overall), and to steal Pikachu (the trio). Let's face it, Jessie, James and Meowth are never going to succeed. And they're not really meant to. They're the constant antagonists, providing spice and comedy each episode; as the comic relief, they do a brilliant job. And they have a strong team dynamic; ultimately, you can't imagine them splitting up, and they're as important to the show as the main characters. (Possibly moreso in a way; Ash's sidekicks come and go, but Team Rocket are a constant). And then there are episodes where they help the heroes, or that expound on their tragic pasts, that really bring the characters to life. ("Go West Young Meowth" is so tragic!) They're also surprisingly competent in certain areas; they're masters of disguise, they build and operate a number of effective mecha, and their plans nearly always work at first. Plus despite how often they're thwarted, the police can never hold them. Then there's the group as a whole; Giovanni, his mother, Butch, Cassidy, Dr. Namba, Domino, Annie, Oakley, Attila, Hun, Tyson, Vicious, Professor Sebastian and Miyamoto being some of the more major characters amongst the army of grunts, scientists, field agents and combat units. Team Rocket is very dangerous, and their plans to rule the world may well be realised yet. They've already managed to create and control Mewtwo until its escape, as well as various other legendary pokémon, and future endeavours may end up working. Vote: Team Rocket Group A-4 Six God-Generals, Tales of the Abyss vs. Team Urameshi, Yu Yu Hakusho Vote: Six God-Generals Group A-5 Shibuya Psychic Research, Ghost Hunt vs. Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV Vote: Shibuya Psychic Research Group A-6 Amaterasu crew, Starship Operators vs. Digidestined-Frontier group, Digimon Frontier Vote: Digidestined-Frontier Group Group A-7 Magic User's Club, Magic User's Club vs. I-Jin, Read or Die OVA Vote: Magic User's Club Group A-8 Kira Investigation Task Force, Death Note vs. Hellsing Organization, Hellsing franchise Vote: Hellsing Organization Group A-9 Colonel Mustang’s squadron, Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Muroe Kendo Club, Bamboo Blade Vote: Muroe Kendo Club Group A-10 NERV, Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Blade Children, Spiral Vote: Blade Children Group A-11 Seishu Prefab Team, Cross Game vs. Court Guard Squad 11, Bleach Vote: Seishu Prefab Team Group A-12 Team Earth, Oban Star Racers vs. Le Secret du Roi, Le Chevalier d’Eon Vote: Team Earth Group A-13 Trapnest, NANA vs. Tokko, Tokko Vote: Tokko Group A-14 The Academy Steel Angel Kurumi vs. Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise Vote: Knight Sabers Group A-15 Odd Jobs Jin, Gintama (NOTE: originally “Yorozuya Gin-san Crew”) vs. Game Club, When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koroni franchise Vote: Game Club Group A-16 Chronos, Black Cat vs. Soyokaze crew, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor Vote: Crew of Soyokaze |

Group A-1
Section 9, Ghost in the Shell franchise Love my Angel Brigade, but I have a feeling Section 9 is a bit better. Group A-2 Nadesico crew, Martian Successor Nadesico Random choice. Group A-3 Team Rocket, Pokemon franchise Even though I've never seen Pokemon, I know about Team Rocket. To have such an overpowering presence definitely says something. Group A-4 Team Urameshi, Yu Yu Hakusho Not familiar with either, so I'll give the nod to Team Urameshi for a very silly reason. Group A-5 Paper Sisters, R.O.D. TV The Paper Sisters are so incredibly good working as a team, even when outsiders try to tear them apart. M.A.M indeed. Group A-6 Amaterasu crew, Starship Operators[b] Pretend coin flip. Group A-7 [b]I-Jin, Read or Die OVA Not as fond of them as the Paper Sisters, but I-Jin certainly fits the bill for now. Group A-8 Kira Investigation Task Force, Death Note They certainly stuck together until the bitter end. Even if one of the members was working against them, the rest more than make up for that fact. Group A-9 Colonel Mustang’s squadron, Fullmetal Alchemist Going with familiarity. Group A-10 Blade Children, Spiral Going with the unfamiliar. Group A-11 Seishu Prefab Team, Cross Game Group A-12 Le Secret du Roi, Le Chevalier d’Eon Group A-13 Trapnest, NANA While they don't have anything on Black Stones, I'll go ahead and give Trapnest some love here. After all, everything Takumi does is for Reira, Reira sings to please Takumi, Naoki just wants to be part of the group, and Ren left the most precious thing behind to be in the band. That's decent enough qualifications for me at the moment. Group A-14 Knight Sabers, Bubblegum Crisis franchise Giving some love to my cyberpunk ladies. Group A-15 Game Club, When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koroni franchise Going with the familiar again. Group A-16 Soyokaze crew, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor Toss-up, going with the one I'm most interested in seeing in action someday. |

I'm curious as to why the entire Team Rocket organisation was nominated ahead of the much much MUCH more stronger trio of Jesse, James and Meowth. I know I should have brought it up during the nominations period, but somehow it didn't click that the strong trio would get weighed down by the rest of the organisation.
