I hope they put something out. I missed getting the first tin, and now it goes for like 150+ on ebay at times.

I know and I got two of them Very Happy.......one I am probably going to sell later in the month since I am going back to school and I am going to be strap for cash. But at least the other 2 tins you can still get at a decent price.

Shocked And here I only paid $30 shipped... (This is why it pays to pre-order, and early! Wink )

Yeah, but up until that boxset, I had never seen another one be that limited in production. I'm sure there were plenty others, but not any that I've purchased. Heck, I just picked up the GITS SAC limited edition tin last week.

The other really limited artbox from this year/previous year had to be Samurai Champloo. That artbox was gone so fast, I mean I get that it's the same director as Cowboy Bebop but damn.

I remember seeing a lot of the Samurai Champloo Vol.1+Artbox pre-[as]. But after a couple of episodes aired on TV, those boxes flew off the shelves of my local anime retailers.

I don't much care for boxes so there isn't a "I regret not buying it", and I also thought the bandana was nothing special.

Guys, guys that's not what I meant. In one recent issue of Anime Insider (the april 2006 I think) they showed a picture of the DVD box set, they had a small article of it when they were giving previews of the Fullmetal Alchemist movie and was just released a while ago in Japan. The cover is silver with a picture of Al and Ed with the blade coming out of his automail.SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION!!! I WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BOOTLEGS FOUND ON EBAY!!! NOTE: I DON'T KNOW IS IT OUT IN JAPAN YET.

TO THE PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT I WAS REFERRING TO THE BOOTLEGS, PLEASE REPLY!!! THANK YOU.
Why don't you actually provide us with a link to this boxset that supposedly exists on Ebay? The fact that you have no proof that this boxset really exists other than saying "OMG, it was in a random issue of Anime Insider I can't link to in order to prove it exists to anyone, I swear!" and that this boxset only exists in a non-existent link on Ebay only makes you look like you're lying through your teeth. So, where's the link to this so called boxset on Ebay? And even if there is a Japanese boxset, it's going to be really expensive to buy and it could only play on R2 DVD players, so it's not really going to help anyone.

At least in that case they have a box that you can buy with all of the dvds in it. I'll just hope that the same is done with FMA.

sorry I misread the article in the magazine. They were actually referring to this: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=ANSB-2005 but I was right about how the DVD comes with some extra ova's though.

Are you seriously associated with FUNimation? That would be cool to have someone from there actually check out our post and help us with stuff, like really stupid questions people ask, about their company.

A lot of "non FUNimation guys" also said not for a long time so I guess we can all be "FUNimation Guys".

Actually that all your getting is the special OVAs....if you read further down on that page you linked to it's says
Quote:
Edition Details
Running Time: 40mins.

Basically your paying 25~35 (with shipping) for a region 2 dvd that has only a bit more then one episodes worth of content. Still that item isn't a boxset or contain the movie...there special OVA that you watch after the movie...sort of like specials for the fans to enjoy.
Till next time,

Thanks for the update! It's always nice to have some official word on the forums. It's also nice when ANN places a title under the poster's name to add legitamancy.

I agree with those who say that a company would be making a grave error in not releasing a box set for a second batch of sales. I will also add (from an official ADV statement IIRC) that many retailers will only carry new releases, and will stop ordering older titles. However they will often carry new versions of older titles. I for one buy mostly initial releases, and have no regrets when cheaper editions are released. You have to ask yourself how much is this title worth to me, and how much am I willing to spend. There are some titles I would be willing to spend more than $30 for and some that I wouldn't spend $1 for. I believe FUNimation is currently experimenting with price points, with there digipak editions of Speed Grapher and Basilisk (which I love) costing a tad more and containing little extra. They also did release Kiddy Grade in 2 disc sets (which is the route I went) right before releasing the complete box set. Samurai 7 had those ultra nice box sets for $50 (I think) which I love, but are all still available despite being limited, since I believe the price point prooved a bit too high for the market. Of course other companies like Bandai and Manga Entertainment are experimenting with the sub $30 new release field as well.

I believe that the market has always been ripe for two types of fans. Those that are willing to spend $35+ per title (I love the Honneamise Patlabor boxes) especially if it includes special features, and those who are willing to spend under $25. In the old days the divide was formed by the video tape and laser disc formats. Since the new high def DVD formats have not caught on the border is in thinpak box sets and new releases with bonus stuff. In Japan many of the new releases come with extra goodies. This might change when Blu-Ray and HDDVD catch on where we will see a market which resembles the old VHS and LD days.

Well, if he's the same Lance Heiskell I saw at Funi's AKon panel, then yes, he's legit. It would be a good idea for any ANN forumite to drop in at the AnimeonDVD forums once in awhile, as craaaazy as they are Laughing just to see what goes on--industry reps and VAs have a much larger presence over there, compared to here. In fact, there are a couple of threads about some Bandai DVD problems with a few reps making replies.

But I'm glad that there won't be an FMA set for a long while, considering that I just started collecting the DVDs this June (obviously couldn't get the first tin, so I didn't bother with the second or third), and it would be pretty bad to see a set for $200 or so before Christmas, considering that the last disc only comes out this month.
