Collection of Critical Essays on Anime Due out in May
Palgrave Macmillan, which previously published Brian Ruh's "Stray Dogs of Anime: The Films of Mamoru Oshii" will be releasing "Cinema Anime", a new volume of critical essays on Japanese animation.
The nine essays included will have titles such as "The Americanization of Anime and Manga: Negotiating Popular Culture", "Excuse Me, Who Are You? Reality and Fantasy in the Anime of Kon Satoshi", and "The Robots from Takkun's Head: Cyborg Adolescence in FLCL."
According to the Palgrave website, the overall theme of the book will be dismantling the distinction between 'high' and 'low' culture and offering compelling arguments for the value and importance of the study of anime and popular culture as a key link in the translation from the local to the global.
The hardback version of the book will be published in May 2006 at £25.00. Details for a softcover version have not yet been announced.
