Lemon Angel Project
posted on by Christopher Macdonald
The official website for Lemon Angel Project, an anime about teen idols, has tentatively opened. The anime will start in January of 2006 in IMAGICA Entertainment's Anime Damashi slot on TV Kanagawa, KBS Kyoto, Gunma TV, BS Asahi, Tokyo MX TV, Nara TV, Shin'etsu Hôsô, Kumamoto Hôsô and AT-X.
Hirama Juri, a young actress from Coecchi, has been cast in one of the parts. The other principle cast members will be announced on November 20th.
The members of Coecchi were hired as assistants/trainees/interns for a radio program related to Anime Damashi. They do 'odd jobs' and are considerably more low-key in comparison to more famous voice actresses. A few more members of the Coecchi group will be selected as a part of the cast of Lemon Angel Project. How much the young status of the voice actresses will overlap in people's minds with the status of the characters they voice remains to be seen.
The name "Lemon Angel Project" is not new to anime fandom. It was originally used in 1987 as the name for a 3-member idol group that also worked as voice actresses in echi anime. One of the members of the original Lemon Angel Project was Tomo Sakurai.
The show's producers are using the name's history as a part of their marketing with phrases like "the excitement
returns" and "New Lemon Angel" on their website.
