Kodansha Pulls Flower of Eden and Silver in Light of Allegations
Posters on the Japanese 2ch bbs have noticed a striking similarity between some of the art in Yuki Suetsugu's Flower of Eden and Slam Dunk and REAL, both by Takehiko Inoue. Posters to the BBS have posted side-by-side scans and superimposed images to illustrate the similarities (The images linked to are from Flower of Eden and Slam Dunk).
Flower of Eden was first serialised in Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend between 2000 and 2004, Slam Dunk ran in Shueisha's Shonen Jump between 1990 and 1996.
Kodansha has stated that it is conducting an investigation and that it has already confirmed that many of the allegations are true. Suetsugu herself has admitted to some of the allegations.
Kodansha has ceased distribution of all 12-volumes of Eden no Hana and is also stopping serialisation of Suetsugu's current manga series, Silver.
Suetsugu has issued a public statement, apologising for the problems caused by her lack of morality.
Tokyopop is aware of the the issue and is discussing the appropriate next step with Kodansha.
