Game Maker Sets up Subsidiaries in France and Singapore. Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online to be Developed in Singapore
Video game developer KOEI has announced that it has founded a business subsidiary in France and a development subsidiary in Singapore.
"KOEI France SAS" was established on January the 1st with a capital stock of 500,000 Euro (US$653,000). By trying to accumulate information on the market and customer needs, KOEI France aims to increase sales to 460 million yen (3.3m Euro / US$4.4m) within a year. France is Europe's 2nd largest market for video games after England, which is why France was chosen for the expansion in the European market as KOEI's next step after the establishment of KOEI LIMITED in England last August.
A game development subsidiary, KOEI ENTERTAINMENT SINGAPORE PTE. LTD., was founded in August 2004 with a stock capital of 3 million Singapore Dollars (US$1.8m). The Singapore subsidiary is not a marketing branch, but a studio with game development as their main objective. With recruitment plans for over 100 employees in 2005, this will be KOEI's largest foreign development studio.
The Singapore studio has been given the task of developing an online version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, one of KOEI's most successful titles. To date RTK has sold over 6 million copies. Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online is scheduled for launch in 2007, initially in Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and China. Following that, it will be introduced to Europe, North America and other parts of Asia. KOEI hopes to attract 1 million subscribers to the game from South-east Asia.
KOEI now generates about 25 per cent of its $432 million in revenues (March 2004 Fiscal year end) outside Japan. KOEI expects its foreign sales in 2004 (March 2005 year end) to be 12.7% in America, 5.2% in Europe and 3.2% in Asia. Over the next couple of years KOEI hopes to increase its foreign revenues to 33% of its total revenue.
