Anime 101

More colleges and universities are adding anime-based courses.

Several more colleges and universities around the US are set to offer
classes on anime in the upcoming months. At New York University, a course entitled simply "Anime" promises to "explore the popularity of anime in relation to the cultural conditions of contemporary Japan and to the context of cultural globalization which is radically transforming the way audio-visual images are produced and consumed."

Also at NYU, the Center for Advanced Digital Applications is planning to
offer an eight-session summer class on technical aspects of anime, geared at industry professionals, as well as those seeking to produce anime or anime-like works. Additional information is availalble here.

Finally, the Division of Educational Outreach at the University of Nevada,
Las Vegas, is offering an "Introduction to Anime" course between March 8 and
April 26, 2003. The course is open to the public and additional information is available here.
