More symbolism than you can shake a stick at.....

    Cons:
  1. What's the movie about?
  2. Does the symbolism actually mean anything?
  3. What does the ending signify?
  • Needs to be watched twice!
  • Watched the 1st five minutes of the dub (need to watch more) and one of the lines has its meaning changed.
I'm rating this 6/11 'till I rewatch it! Also, watch the dub.

First Squad - The Moment Of Truth (OAV) Very good (dub & sub)
Would have rated it higher, but the OAV ends abruptly; as though there is more to the story that is not being told. Also, a tolerance for art-house films is required. You have been warned.

  • This series is very obviously allegorical much in the same was as FLCL (OAV) is.

I gave up on this series after episode #6 because I, quite frankly, found it boring.
Will try watching one ep./day.
    • Chito-san (black "lucky" cat) becomes Chito-senpai.
    • Herb gathering on the mountain side.
    • I forgot just how beautiful the animation is.....
    • 10:00 Mildly amusing humor.....
    • 10:59 More of the same.....
    • 2nd ½: Going to a café (witch is proprietor, ghost is waitress)
    • 10 sec. epilogue
    • OST is OK.....
    • The dub is actually quite good! Shannon Reed was the ADR director.....
  2. More reactions at the café.
    • Fortune-telling in the 1st ½.
    • 12:50─Symbolism
    • Gardening in the 2nd ½.
  4. Cooking lessons
    Work in the apple orchard
  5. Is that whale CGI?

  6. What a relaxing OST to end the series with.....

When watching this series it is necessary to remember the principles of cultural anthropology. Remember that Japanese culture emphasizes conformity to a toxic extreme. "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down."
ep.#6| This episode puts the series in SERIOUS territory. 11/11!!!
ep.#7| Continues where #6 left off. 11/11
ep.#8| The landlord continues to bond with the children.
ep.#9| Brother Snow becomes severely ill.
ep.#10|Tanis is crushed by the thought that Sumire loves Snow.
ep.#11| Tanis now has to rely on the only two adults that he can trust.
I was going to rate this series at 11/11, but it is nothing more than an extended commercial for the manga!!! It turns out the manga was only two volumes long. Rating at 10/11 because I like both the OP & ED

  2. Ep.#2: Amalgam isn't messing around.....
  3. Ep.#3 Kyouko Tokiwa and everyone else at Jendai(?) High School are basically hostages ─ and Amalgam is kicking Mithril's collective ass.
  4. Ep.#4: That last scene showing Sousuke Sagura crossing the threshold of Jindai High School says it all: Nothing will ever be the same.....

  5. Ep.#5: So Sousuke is earning his keep with this day job.....
  6. Ep.#6: The matches are rigged; Kurama uses the police chief against Sousuke.
  7. Ep.#7: And 5 seconds 'till Kurama pulls the trigger.....
  8. Ep.#8: So Sousuke gets his man; but at what a cost.....
    • Ep.#8½: Recap episode (5-8)
  9. Ep.#9: An ~2 month time skip. The current status of the crew of the Tuatha De Danaan. Also, Sousuke's life is in imminent danger.....
  10. Ep.#10: The stakes are dramatically raised on an isolated road in Alaska where one survives while the other does not.....

  • Symbolism in various episodes and ED

The dub leaves a little to be desired.....
