Anime with inaccurate North American age ratings Rating Comment
Blue Gender (TV) The series carries a TV-PG rating on its DVD and online releases by Funimation. However, the bloody violence and sex scenes are explicit enough it should have a TV-MA rating.
Casshern Sins (TV) The TV-MA rating applied by Funimation is a bit too harsh - the show was broadcast on American television with most of its episodes as PG, with a handful receiving a TV-14.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) Very good Despite the TV-PG rating, there's stronger language than one would expect from said rating, including barely bleeped F-words and crude sexual terms in one particular episode, as well as some partial nudity. TV-14 would be more appropriate.
Genocyber (OAV) The VHS release of the show says "Unrated. Suitable for most audiences.", and the DVD collection carries a 13+ rating. These are both wildly inaccurate, as this OAV series contains extreme violence, strong language, nudity, etc.
I couldn't become a hero, so I reluctantly decided to get a job. (TV)
K-ON! (TV) Good Sentai has given the series a TV-14 rating, despite the fact that most episodes are entirely G-rated, with a TV-PG only being necessary for a handful.
Kiddy Grade (TV) The fanservice is stronger than you'd expect from the TV-PG rating on the box, including detailed frontal nudity.
Little Witch Academia (TV) Very good The series carries a TV-Y7 rating on Netflix. While this may be aimed at children, there are a few sporadic curse words ('damn', 'hell', the word 'sh*t' appearing once in on-screen text) that parents would not likely expect from a TV-Y7 show.
Oh! Edo Rocket (TV) Masterpiece The TV-MA rating applied by Funimation is too harsh. There is no explicit nudity, graphic violence, strong language, or anything else unsavory that would require such a rating. There is occasional blood, but no gore. The word "sh*t" is used only a few times. Some sexual innuendo in the dialogue, but on the level you'd see in a primetime animated series. The subtitled version is even tamer.
Robonimal Panda-Z: The Robonimation (TV) Bandai gave this series a 14-up rating, despite its obvious child appeal and lack of objectionable content.
To Love Ru: Darkness (TV) The first season was rated as TV-14 by Sentai Filmworks, despite the frequent sexual situations and detailed frontal nudity being more appropriate for a TV-MA rating.
