posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

This vintage manga receives a modernized update, getting in touch with its feminine side.

Manga artist Michi Saitou has replaced Akira Miyashita's all-male cast in his manga, Sakigake!! Otoko Juku, as women in an official spin-off series known as Otokojuku Gaiden: Kurenai!! Onna Juku.

Thirty years after World War III, Japan has suffered immense damage from a dangerous weapon known as a "Man Bomb" which affected nearly all Japanese men and rendered them unable to fight, with other men giving their lives for their country. Heihachi Edajima, an Otoko Juku veteran and survivor of the Man Bomb, starts up a new facility known as Onna Juku, a tough combat training facility, and begins training several Japanese women to fight for their country.

The manga follows Momoko Tsurugi, a descendant of former protagonist Momotaro Tsurugi, who recently enrolls in Onna Juku. As spirited and tenacious as her ancestor, Momoko's catchphrase is "As a woman, I ain't dying! I, Momoko Tsurugi, will show you my burning youth!"

Other characters include Motoko Togashi, a descendant of Genji Togashi.

The manga started serialization in January on Nihon Bungeisha's webcomic site, Goraku Egg. The first collective volume was released on September 28.
