Locodol Anime Gets 3rd OVA
posted on by Karen Ressler
The official blog for Locodol, the anime adaptation of Kōtarō Kosugi's Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita four-panel manga, revealed screenshots for a third original video anime (OVA) on March 25. The 25-minute episode is titled "PV Tsukuttemita." (We tried to make a promotional video).
The staff held a limited advance screening at TOHO CINEMAS Nagareyama Ootakanomori on March 20, and a stream on d Anime Store on April 1. The stream was limited to 1,000 viewers.
The episode will ship on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on June 22 for 6,500 yen (about US$59) and 5,500 yen (about US$50), respectively.
In the original manga's story, high school girl Nanako became her town's local idol at the request of her uncle. She and her upperclassman Yukari, a girl who seems perfect but ends up being airheaded, both become idols of their provincial area. They get interviewed (by the town's shopping center), go on television (low-budget cable), and hold concerts (on the roof of the department store). The girls' salaries come from the town's taxes.
The four-panel series inspired the 12-episode Locodol television anime series that premiered in July 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. The franchise's first OVA episode was bundled with the first Blu-ray Disc and DVD volume in Japan in September 2014, and Crunchyroll streamed the OVA in December. The second OVA was a Christmas special that shipped on DVD and Blu-ray on March 23 after airing on television on December 24, 2015. Crunchyroll also streamed this OVA.
Sentai Filmworks released the TV anime series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc with 13 episodes in January.
Kosugi began serializing the manga in Ichijinsha's Manga 4-Koma Palette magazine in 2011, and Ichijinsha published the fourth volume on July 22.
