Thermae Romae's Mari Yamazaki Launches Manga About Olympics Next Spring
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The second 2018 issue of Shueisha's Grand Jump magazine revealed Wednesday that Mari Yamazaki will launch a new manga tentatively titled Olympia Kyklo (Olympic Circle) in the magazine in spring 2018. The comedy story will center on a king from Ancient Greece who is transported to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
Yamazaki ended her Thermae Romae manga in March 2013. The manga inspired a television anime mini-series and two live-action films starring Hiroshi Abe and Aya Ueto. Yen Press publishes the manga in North America, while Discotek licensed the anime in North America.
Yamazaki most recently drew the three-chapter BVLGARI o Tsukutta Otoko - Sotirios Voulgaris (The Man Who Made BVLGARI - Sotirios Voulgaris) manga from July to September. The manga centers on Bulgari founder Sotirios Voulgaris as he travels back in time with three Japanese actresses to Ancient Rome to discover the origin of Bulgari jewelry.
The 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics will take place from July 24 to August 9 of that year, and will be the second time the Summer Olympics will be held in Tokyo after the 1964 Summer Olympics.
