Philippine film distributor Viva International Pictures announced on Wednesday that it will screen Come on Irene, the live-action film adaptation of Hideki Arai's Itoshi no Irene manga, beginning on July 31.
The film opened in Japan last September.
Keisuke Yoshida (live-action Silver Spoon, Himeanōru) directed the film and penned the script. The film stars Ken Yasuda as main character Iwao Shishido. Yoshida held an audition in the Philippines to cast newcomer actress Nats Sitoy as Shishido's wife.
The film centers on Iwao Shishido, who at age 40 suddenly leaves his rural village, but returns with a foreign bride during his father's funeral.
Arai published the manga in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine from 1995 to 1996. Shogakukan published six compiled book volumes for the manga. Ohta Publishing reprinted the manga in two collected volumes in 2010 and 2011.
