A television anime adaptation of the popular Kobito-Zukan picture book series has been green-lit. The retitled Chobitto-Zukan anime spinoff will run on the Kids Station, Tokyo MX, and TV Kanazawa channels.
The picture book series launched in 2006 and follows Kobitos, mysterious creatures that are neither insects nor plants. The series has 2.7 million copies in print, and the characters received the Licensing of the Year 2011 Grand Prix award and topped the children's book sales ranking in 2013.
Sumi Shimamoto (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind's title character, Maison Ikkoku's Kyoko Otonashi) will play the main lead Kakuremomojiri, and Tempura Kidz will perform the theme song.
Toshitaka Nabata is credited with the original character designs that the anime is revamping. Jun Kanzaki is directing at Kachidoki Studio, and Motoichi Adachi is writing the scripts.
