Nintendo of America confirmed on Wednesday that it released the Squid Girl crossover items for the U.S. version of the Splatoon Wii U game. Nintendo made the free update with the costumes available on Wednesday.
Nintendo had posted an image of the lead characters from Squid Girl and Splatoon with ink-squirting guns on its Twitter account in May.
The free U.S. game update included more than 40 pieces of new gear, two new weapon types, squad battles, private battles, a level cap increase, a ranked battle level increase, new music, and updates to the Urchin Underpass. Nintendo began streaming snippets of three of the game's new songs on Thursday.
Nintendo also began streaming a video from the Splatoon Canadian summer tour on Tuesday.
Nintendo released Splatoon in North America and Europe on May 29 and in Australia on May 30. The game shipped in Japan on May 28. The third-person shooter game centers on "Inklings," who are beings who can transform between human and squid form.
